Engine Bay fender cleaning?

I have successfully completed putting back to black on all the hoses and cable covers in the engine bay. My next task is to get the tops of the wheel wells, on the left and right side of the car to shine like the outide of the car. I have seen others do this and it greatly enhances the "clean" look. To get them to shine would I need to clean them with a small amount of soapy water and a light mist to get them clean and then wax, or what?

Gloss paint is what makes them shine. If you want to make them look better, wash and wax.

So wash and wax them, then use a spray on clear coat like Krylon??

The proper way to get them to shine is to take everything off the fenders and have them painted.

The inner fenders are not painted the same as the exterior. They have a matte finish. You can try to "cheat it" by cleaning the fenders and hitting it with wax. The problem you may run into though is that the wax may look worse due to the coarse paint. Try some instant detailer on it to see what happens to the paint. The instant detailer will clean it up a little and put a semigloss sheen on it.

The clearcoat idea is a good one, but be careful because the paint may yellow or crack. You might want to look into getting them painted clear by a paint shop. I couldnt see it costing more than one or two hundred...
