questions about the high stall/obd1 issues
questions about the high stall/obd1 issues
I have read, heard, and witnessed many times the shifting problems caused by high stalls (3k and above) with OBD1 cars. Some folks have luck, most don't. I'm not here to debate the programming or trans calibration changes needed to make it work.
My question here is.....what this condition related to a specifc or a few different gear ratios or did it encompass all of them...?
i.e. a Yank 3200 with 3.23s....does that work...? Or even a 3000stall with 2.73s, is that feasible...?
Most of the ones I've read about and seen involve 3.73 and 4.10 gears.
Let me know if I am in error and haven't kept up with things.
BTW. I just lost my 8th 4L60 due to the magnent in the pan coming loose and tossing about. This one had held up about 20,000mi behind a SLP 2,400 stall and 3.73s. If I could get my SLP stall clena of debris I would reuse it for a while, but I do not thing that is going to be possible.

Programming is the only way you will get the OBDI problem fixed.
Most of the time programming will fix it the other route is to swap it out for an OBDII setup. ED Wright can fix it for you, the same goes with Bryan at PCMFORLESS.

Dabear I don't believe that yank sells the St3500 anymore. I read a post on another website where they said something about a new ss3500 replacing st3500. you might want to check. Vig3200 like i have is very much like the st3500. Just info. And i had to go to the Obd2 fix for my car once i got 60fts below 1.62. The transmission tables on the obd1 couldn't keep up with the rapid speed change. Frank95z
Ordered yank stealth 2600 stall this morning. Better safe than sorry for my daily driver.
Still better than the SLP 2,400 (unless it's Frank's
) that is now full of magnent fragments.
This tranny crap is beyond sucking now (8th on a lo-po, not-often raced and quite pampered LT1). Could be the quality of the rebuilds, but this last one was no one's fault. The pan magnent broke up.

Don't get around my transmission
I had my original transmission in my car for 65,000 miles and it still worked fine. But I bought a brand new Gm remanufactured from a guy who had bought a used car from a dealership with the new transmission in it. He was turning that car into a NHRA stocker and sold me the new GM trans for $300. I now have 5000 miles on that transmission with no problems. I just call that luck not skill
Frank95z Ps I think Yank makes the SLP2400 also.

I too had this problem with my vig 2800 and 3.73 gears. Ed Wright's fix didn't work for me so I'm looking into the obd2 conversion or possibly going to a built 700R4. I started a post on this very same subject that resulted in numerous responses. Do a search and you should still find it.
I've cut a few 1.68 & 1.69 60 fts in my '94 'vert with a Vig 2800 and 3.73 gears. I haven't had any shifting problems yet. This is in a bolt on car. My next step may be heads/cam and maybe 100 shot of nitrous. Is it safe to assume that I'm likely to have this problem?
I've previously done some research and I understand some people blame it on the stall speed (most say 2800 is okay, over 3000 is bad) but others have said they saw the problem with 60 ft times quicker than 1.69 regardless of stall. I'm just wondering what you guys thoughts are on this.
