Nitrous on a Stock LT1?

I was wondering how big of a shot a stock LT1 will handle. The only mods to the motor will be exhaust/intake/headers. I was going to do a cam this summer but I am considering Nitrous instead so I don't have a loss of daily driveability. I was thinking maybe a 75 to 100 shot. Also, what is the best brand of kit?

Many people have sprayed 125-150HP on a stock LT1 ith no problems. You will need to address issues like plug selection, timing retard, injector selection (for dry kits), fuel supply, etc.

100 shot will work out perfectly. Just step it down in heat range on the plugs and get a fuel pressure safety switch. Holley NOS kits are nice. I myself like the Nitrous Works kit. Most people on here like the Harris Speedworks kit.

There are people that are spraying 200hp on a stock engine.
I'm not SUGGESTING that, I'm just mentioning it.

Which kit? I bought the Zex dry kit for LT1s, but then again I replaced my stock injectors with new ones that are also larger; and I also installed a new Walbro 255. The guys at either Harris or Dave's will be happy to talk to you in great detail about your specific needs.

What's safe?
Well, it's probably a good idea if you start with a 75 shot and read your plugs.

150 shot for me. Stock motor, stock timing, 91 pump gas.

Put down 410hp/510tq with low bottle pressure. Ran that for a while and didn't hurt a thing.

Put a cam in and started spinning to 6500 and spun 2 bearings. N20 is plenty safe, just don't abuse it and get the right stuff for it. Now I have a motor thats begging for a 300 shot.

A stock LT1 will handle a 75-100 shot with no problem. As noted above by Injuneer, there are a few other things that should be upgraded in order to safely spray. As for the best kit, I personally feel N/X makes one of the better and more complete kits and it has good documentation as well. Either way though, a call or visit to Nitrous Outlet or Harris Speed will yield you alot of different options.

Thanks for all the input. I am definately gonna look into this some more. What kind of plugs would you guys recommend? I was palnning on starting with a 75 then working my way up to a 100. I don't wanna go to high as this is my daily driver.

Im running the harrisspeedworks wet kit with the mallory ignition box. As for plugs i have the NGK Tr6 plugs with MSD 8mm wires. I just put the kit in and have only sprayed it twice bue we will see how it goes at the track this weekend.

I started running a 125 shot on my stock LT1 this year. For safety, I am using autolite 104's gapped to .045, 3 degrees of timing retard from my mallory box and 94 octane. Plugs looked just fine on the 125 shot with no detonation. I finished installing a racetronix 255 lph intank pump and feel confident it will take the 150 shots with no problems.

When my LT1 engine was 100% stock, aside from a MSD digital 6, and colder plugs.....I ran a 150 shot (to the wheels) for a little over 6 years.....went thru way too many bottles to count:D .......high 11's without one single problem.......as long as it never go's lean, it should be just fine:cool:
