Castrol 0w-30

I have not been active on this site for a while But I've been using the Castrol Syntec 0w-30, the one made in germany. Is this still good oil to use? I switched to it from a thread a while back from Patman recommending it.

I use it all the time, when I can find it. Patman know his oil.
I wouldn't change.

According to the people who have actual data, it is the best oil for the LT1. Acccording to the people who have no data, some other oil is just as good or better. Of course this will probably turn into a flamefest.

But you make it so easy! One good oil analysis on one guys engine does not make a great oil! It takes thousands of engines with thousands of hour in all kinds of conditions before one can even begin to make this claim.
An oil analysis is a good tool to use to check the current condition of your oil/engine. But it is not all inclusive, it only tell you what not why.
I have nothing against Castrol, but I doubt it's the "BEST" oil in the world.
In fact I doubt there is a "BEST", just good and some not so good.

I put that green stuff in my push Snapper and when I crunked it, it started to float. I says SHIZ-GNOIK! and cut that thang off.

I have been using Mobil 1 0w-40 with no problems for the last 2 years. Just my $.02.

Re: Castrol 0w-30

I don't know if there really is a best oil for all situations. Climate, operating temp, environmental conditions, etc all play into the game...

That being said, there have been very good oil analysis data collected with the "German Castrol" 0w30...

There are also many other very good oils... Many people are getting very good results with the Mobil 1 0w40 and the 5w40.

Valvoline Max Life Synthetic 5w30 has also been shown to be an excellent choice...

All this being said even the conventional oils today are very good and most people won't develop oil lubrication related failures unless something in their motor is out of spec... Spun bearing, failed oil pump, etc... No oil will do it's job if it can't get to the part that needs to be lubricated...

Re: Castrol 0w-30

Anyone know if it's still the best/better than Mobil 0W-40 despite it not being the same green formula anymore? I've run out of green, but will probably still stick with it.

Also what about Mobil 0W-40? I remember reading that Mobil's oil formulas were showing signs of getting thicker, so would the 40 be too much now?

Either way, I think I'll be sticking w/ Castrol, but I was just curious and wanted to know if anyone knew off the top of their head before I hit up the oil forums.

Thanks

Re: Castrol 0w-30

Hasn't Castrol phased out the German made 0W-30? It's just supposed to be labeled "Made in Europe" or something like that?
