turbo exhaust mainafolds

I am planning my twin turbo set up and had a question about the exhaust mainafolds I am going to build. Is it pos. for me to use the stock flange to build them? Cut off the old exhaust tubes flush and then weld my new tubes to the old flange? Or do I need to spend the $80+ and buy new ones? I am planning 16 gauge 1 5/8 tubing for the pipes.

Thanks
Matt

You want new ones... The stockers are cast iron and you are going to be using mild steel. The two don't mix real well and it will be the weak point. If you try and use the old, they'll likely snap off at the flange.

Now if you had a set of shorty headers, that would be a different story.

41865600

havent orderd yet but i emailed them and they say it will match up to the lt1 heads...

i allready have a kit here from another company but it is missing some tubing

i might be ordering it in the near future if i dont have enough tubing ...

you wont need any bigger than 1 3/4" tubing... some might say that is allreday to big

If it s a first time builder...I wouldnt recommend that kit. The flanges are only 5/16 thick and 18ga is not beefy enough IMO if you are going to have turbos hanging off the ends of the headers. Buy atleast 16ga on tubing and what happens if by accident you warp the header flanges with too much heat and then you haveto have a mchine shop mill them flat...your gonna be lft witha 1/4" or les on the flanges. I got a set of SBC flanges from Brian @ B&G Fabrication (sponsor on turbomustangs, so go over there if you want contact info). I paid $50 + shipping for the flanges and they were .5" thick. I slighly warped the flanges afte welding with too much heat and had them milled to 3/8" thick. Still plenty thick...but I would have been screwed if I started at 5/16".
