ya or nay on sts turbojmh96z28 02-10-2006, 12:25 PM in thinking og gets a sts turbo system with my 383 stroker set up.let me here all your thoughts on the sts set up and why its good or bad. Roadie 02-10-2006, 12:33 PM try the search feature... there's plenty of threads on this subject. cbrakllr88 02-10-2006, 05:49 PM the sts system is good but I would go with a front mounted turbo. Try GMRspeed.com or hi -flo turbo kits but there pretty backed up from what I hear. Good luck on your F.I. purchase. snorkelface 02-10-2006, 05:54 PM the sts system is good but I would go with a front mounted turbo. I kept posting asking for updates on it, but they never responded. I ended up going with a PTK kit. I would have gone STS, but I am lowered, and plan on going down to approx 2" lowered total, and would have ground-clearance issues. fabgmc4me 02-19-2006, 12:52 AM GMR Speed is in the process of mocking up the LT1 Front mount kit currently on my car. The kit will be similar to their LS1 kit from what they told me. They should have them ready for purchase in the next few months. My car will be a completely built 383, and most likley a T76. I'll post updates on my car as it progresses. MMC Racing 02-19-2006, 01:26 AM I am in favor of the STS kit.. They are making some serious power with their kits.. We are Authorized Dealers of STS kits.... So when your ready call us or PM me and I will get you a Kick ass Deal!! Thanks.. Honda Hunter 02-19-2006, 04:47 AM I am in favor of the STS kit.. LukeZ28 02-20-2006, 10:20 PM An option I haven't seen many go with (if you already dont have longtubes) is to go with the LT1 kit which runs the intake pipe up the center over the Kmember and run shorty headers. I don't see longtubes making much of a difference and there is no ground clearance problem with the LT1 STS kit even on lowered cars like mine. I have been running the base kit for about 3 years strong. snorkelface 02-20-2006, 10:32 PM An option I haven't seen many go with (if you already dont have longtubes) is to go with the LT1 kit which runs the intake pipe up the center over the Kmember and run shorty headers. I have been running the base kit for about 3 years strong. That's weird. When I looked at the kit online, it looked like the piping drooped down pretty far under that axle, and was exposed running under the car. NJLT1SS 02-20-2006, 11:00 PM I saw an STS system being installed on a car at a local shop. It seems like with this kit that you loose the drivers side subframe connector to install the intake pipe that runs from the turbo to the throttle body. And yes, the pipes do hang down low, and looks kinda rediculous when you see it on the road. Hey, how come you have one subframe connector sitting in your closet....... Nick LukeZ28 02-20-2006, 11:02 PM Here is an under side pic of an LT1 kit, and some others on the page where you can see the difference from the LS1 kit. http://www.jlturbo.com/imgs/LT1_bot.jpg http://www.jlturbo.com/eyecandy.htm Added: Installation fitment with the rear LS1 pipe can be tweeked to fit better, sorta learn little tricks after working with them a while. Yes, with the LS1 kit you would loose the SFC on the drivers side unless you did some additional fabricating. 5.0THIS 02-21-2006, 05:37 AM I saw the kit on an LS1 Formula (Might have been a TA, I dont recall) that was stock height. The rear pipe going under the rear axle was about 3 inches off the ground at one point. RealQuick 02-21-2006, 07:42 AM I saw the kit on an LS1 Formula (Might have been a TA, I dont recall) that was stock height. The rear pipe going under the rear axle was about 3 inches off the ground at one point. I thought both pipes went over the rear axles (intake and xhaust pipes)? NYSS Guy 02-21-2006, 08:45 PM Both pipes do go over the rear end. The charge pipe just before the rear tire, is usually the lowest point on the kit. But, I'm stock height, and never hit that pipe on anything. It could also be modified to alleviate some of that...if it's that big of a concern. 5.0THIS 02-22-2006, 05:16 AM I thought both pipes went over the rear axles (intake and xhaust pipes)? I'm talking about where NYSS guy is saying. I think it's dangerously low there, not to mention the pipe that "replaces" the subframe connector. To me that is probably even more vulnerable. detroit1994z28 02-22-2006, 03:05 PM I have the sts kit on my 94 lt1. Love the kit. One of the best choices I made. Makes amazing power and torque. Car runs cool all day long with the turbo. Only part I dont like is how low my turbo hangs. I have exactly 2 1/2" of ground clearance. Exactly ---- Had no problems with anything yet. But as far as the performance and looks I could not be any happier with these systems - Mike LukeZ28 02-22-2006, 07:19 PM Both the pipe that runs to the SFC pipe (LS1 kit) and turbo it self could hang low depending on installation. Fitment on the pipes can be adjusted to fit better and I-pipe position to the turbo can be positioned for optimal ground clearance. There still is a chance for some thing to hit it, as well as other moded parts (FMIC), but so far in 3 years I have been good. A mod i have done to prevent damage is replace the old worn out bump stops with some custom aluminum/dense rubber stops. These will only allow my car (which is lowered) to go so low before bottoming out on the bump stops and not any other moded component in the rear. sherwinZ28 02-23-2006, 06:30 PM Since you're in EPA I'd be careful not to have your stuff stolen :P. Just kidding with you but your in the bay area and if smog is a concern I would go with the STS kit since you aren't relocating/deleting the cat. This is most likely why I'll be going with the STS kit otherwise I would go with a standard front mount turbo setup, aka PTK setup. I remember there was an awesome deal going on with the STS kit when it was somewhat new but it seems those prices no longer come up. Good luck in your decision and let me get a test drive since your close by :P. LukeZ28 02-23-2006, 07:19 PM If you would like a deal contact one of the forum dealers (link below), and say your a CZ28 member and usually you will get a good discount. | ||
