TravProcharged94Z 02-10-2006, 10:41 AM I was looking at the Wiseco pistons (part#K431A4 -15cc dish) and the Diamond pistons(Part#11422 -22cc dish) so I would like a little input on what piston everyone would recommend.
These will be going in a Procharged LT1 running 15-18 psi from a D1. With my heads the wiseco's will give about 8.8:1 compression ratio. The motor was previously built but do to crappy machine work/engine assembly I'm going to have to go .040 on the bore. I already have Forged H-beams and will be running a forged 3.48 stroke crank.
I know the diamond's are made of 2618 material but I'm not sure about the Wiseco's. Also I'm not sure how important piston weight is in a blown app but the wiseco's are 433g and the diamond's are 544g. The wiseco's can be bought for $496 and the Diamonds are $616. For the price and the weight I like the Wiseco's but would like some opinions.
Thanks for any help.
Travis
markinkc69z 02-10-2006, 11:54 AM I am going to use the Wiseco piston myself and they are 2618. I have no opinion about the Diamond as I have never used any before and just don't know any engine builders that do that I'm in contact with. Its just never came up.
will62085 02-10-2006, 04:35 PM what kinda power are you lookin to put through my old y pipe? haha i went with the -22cc SRP pistons in mine... not as strong as the diamonds, but supposedly strong enough, from what ive read, somethin else is gonna let go before a piston unless you go real lean
OBE1 95Z28 02-10-2006, 06:02 PM With a blown application a lighter piston is not always the best choice. The heavier piston may be more durable.
markinkc69z 02-10-2006, 07:22 PM Very true. I'm comfortable with the design of the Wiseco but its a good point. I didn't select it for its light weight.
TravProcharged94Z 02-11-2006, 12:10 PM Thanks for the help. I'll probably go with the Wiseco pistons.

LOL...not sure on the power yet, but it probably won't be enough :D
rskrause 02-11-2006, 12:48 PM I was distinctly unimpressed witht he last set of Wiseco's I saw. They had sharp edges all along the dish relief that had to be smoothed over.

markinkc69z 02-11-2006, 02:32 PM I expect to have to dress any budget piston I would use. And luckily aluminum doesn't glow. SRP's are the same way. I would use the FMP LW "turbo" piston if it was a different material. Their material is very close to 4032 though.

Travis,
Have you considered CP pistons? I've had great luck with them although they are pricey..... I've also heard of folks having great success with the Diamond brand as well.

Blownbird355 02-15-2006, 05:44 PM Hey Travis, Who did your machine work? Was it George over in Cannonsburg? At GCP or some place else. HAte to hear you have to rebuild. I wish I spent a bit more on my I-beams. I hope to get my car going in the next month or so.
TravProcharged94Z 02-16-2006, 04:13 PM Byles machine shop.....Its located behind NAPA on Greenup Ave . I'm going to have my buddy at Performance do the machince work this time.
Good luck with your car :)

Blownbird355 02-16-2006, 06:06 PM At GCP performance or Performance in ashland?

Performance Engineering in Ashland.
Blownbird355 02-16-2006, 08:14 PM Is it the friend that used to work at fairchilds?
T/A KID 02-16-2006, 08:20 PM Victory racing built my Forged 383 with Diamond pistons, setup includes 216 chamber LE LT4 AFR heads and a D1SC with about 15lbs of boost. Mine will work fine.
TravProcharged94Z 02-17-2006, 04:48 PM Is it the friend that used to work at fairchilds?
No, that guy is a jackass and is the reason my motor needs rebuilt.
Matt Hornbuckle aka "Bull" is the one at Performance Eng,his dad bought it about 4 yrs ago.
Blownbird355 02-19-2006, 04:58 AM So performance is alot better than it was 5-6 yrs ago?
IDOXLR8 02-19-2006, 12:05 PM I would highly recommend going with a JE piston. I am not conviced or impressed with Diamond pistons. I have seen at least two failures both on forced induction applications.

I hope so because thats who's doing the machine work for me.

Hmmm...I may go ahead and spend the extra coin and buy JE pistons. Thanks for the feedback that's why I made this post. :)
