The wife's vehicle is throwing a trouble code, and so is she! The SES is on, and the code is P0430. Engine has no power above 2500 rpm, and downshifts and revs up, but no umph, idle is smooth. If you feather the pedal it will get up to speed. The Helms book says to check the tree-way catalytic converter....well its still there, no dents, no rattles, no discoloration.....been there for 173k miles. Maybe it needs to be replaced? Anyone else have a similar problem?

If the converter was to fall off (no emissions testing here) what do I do with the 4 ( yes four!) O2 sensors?

If the converter melted down, did the stuff go into the muffler? Do I need to replace that too?

Just to let you know, I threw the P0430 (and 0420) on my Z28 and it was remedied by replacing the cats. Although I didn't have the driveability problems that you are stating.

After replacing the catalytic converters, did you need to replace the muffler too?

Nope...
