anti-theft moduel

Has any one here ever messed with the anti-theft moduel on the 93-96 or 97 camaro, or when ever it was that chevy redisigned the dash. My damn security light is on and from all my diagnosis so far everything is pointing to a bad anti-theft moduel but to test it I have to disconnect it and run some test on the moduel and connector but I can't get to it. From what I can tell is that you have to completely remove the dash just to get to it but I'v also heard that its possible to take out the pass. air bag and go at it though there. But I would like to hear from a few people before I go though with removing the air bag and try that rought. Been search all over this site, shoebox's site, and brent's site and got nothing.

Thanks
Gary

Re: anti-theft moduel

Gary, my security light also came on about a month ago, though it was flashing, and I thought that it was just the chip in the key, so I had a new key made and it wasn't that. It turns out it was my my swith that reads the chip whent out, so we by-passed that VAT system. Pretty easy two do if you have a wirring diagram. I don't know if that something your interested in doing, but I just thought I would throw you out a suggestion. Good luck

its not the chip its something with the moduel, but it may also be the lock cylinder. But I'm not the kind of person that just slaps parts on a car and hope that it fixes it. I like to diagnosis it find whats wrong with it and replace it not replace one part after another after another after another hoping the porblem gets fixed in the process.

Re: anti-theft moduel

Well, I understand that, I was just trying to save money. Its pretty expensive to pull the steering wheel, and by a new ignition switch, that is why I decided to bypass the system. Either way, if you bypass the system your problem will be solved. The VAT system is two wires , right next to the wires need to hot wire your car. So in reality, if someone knows anything about GM cars, they will be able to steal your car even if the VAT system is working like it should. Good luck
