Component tweeter in Camaro
Component tweeter in Camaro
How many people out there have a component set up for the front speakers and how did you mount the tweeter? I really like my current setup, but unless I have the volume turned up alot, it SOUNDS like my front speakers are on the ground. My HU has DSO(dynamic soundstage organizer) and if I use it and make it so that the front speakers sound like they are at ear level, then it totally messes up how the rears sound. So im looking at getting some components for the front so my front soundstage is where it should be without using DSO.
Current Set Up
Pioneer TS-A1681R - 4-Ways at all 4 corners
Sony CDX-M8810X - Head unit
Sony XM-SD46X Amplifier - 60watts RMSx4

Re: Component tweeter in Camaro
I'll be keeping an eye on this post. i have aset of alpine 5 1/4 comps..also cant find a place to put the tweeters. i was thinking A pillars....wait just had a CRAZY idea...what if you got an a pillar gauge pod... and put it in there?!? might be something to think about! i might do that even. wow im amazed i just though of that.
Re: Component tweeter in Camaro
The problem you run into at the A pillars is the timing difference. You want botht he highs and lows to hit you at the same time. I will try t get some pics on of tweeters up tonight,

Its a toss up kinda thing. I think most people notice it. Now that dosent mean it bugs them. I wouldent change out the door panels if it was my choice. Stay with the componets they will soudn alot better in the end. Well worth the effort. IM on campus all day today for classes but hopefully tonight i can get some up. Did your componet kit come with a flush mount? Most do. All you need is a hole saw of the correct size and pict a spot on the carpet on the door pannel. Your want it mounted high and as close to the edge as possibul. I have noticed that the windows play a larger role in my osund stage now than ever before in my other cars. If you dnt have power windows than you can do what i did on my first camaro. Use a surface mount and pu the tweeters right where the power window controls would go. You get the best sound staging out of that setup. How much work are you willing to do? What mounting option came wiht your speakers?
Re: Component tweeter in Camaro
As of right now I have no pictures of my setup yet, but I've got the Alpine Type-S components in my front doors. I put the tweeters up on the black piece covering the side mirrors, using the angle mounts supplied with them. When the doors close they aim pretty much to the center of the car, about chest level I would say.
I custom mounted the mids and crossovers in the original Bose speaker mounts in the door. I cut up the old amp holders and made them work for the crossovers, that way I wouldn't have to remote mount them somewhere under the dash.
Also, I wanted sound from the rear, but not highs. So I went with some 6.5" Kicker mid-basses in the sail panels and they don't sound too bad. They're no subwoofers, but they help a LOT in the lower end where the components can't get to. Now all I need is a 10" sub in a stealth box and it'll be an excellent sound.
Good luck man. I did all this for the same reason you're saying, because I couldn't stand hearing all the music from down at my feet.

PS - I'll try to get some pics sometime this weekend and put them up for ya.
