Trying to find a "Refined" location for the XM Radio, Any suggestions?

Stock Sound system W/CD Player, Got an XM Radio for XMas (plugs into the Sterio I guess)... I'm trying to find a decent place to put it where it #1 Won't get in the way, #2 Looks decent where it sits, and #3 Easy access to send wires into the interior... Any suggestions?

Re: Trying to find a "Refined" location for the XM Radio, Any suggestions?

I have the older '95 interior and I just mounted mine in to space under the radio with the velcro. I don't think it looks bad and it is out of the way yet visible. A cut piece of plastic to cover the whole space and frame the XM unit would be nice though.

As far as routing wires, I mounted my antenna in the spoiler (Camaro). I just removed the 3rd brake light and mounted it in there with velcro, ran the wires through a hole from the spoiler to the inside (under plastic cover). Then from the spoiler into the panel next to the the rear driverside pass. seat, then under driver's seat to under the center console then to the XM head unit.

For power, I bought a cig. lighter from Radio Shack and connected it to the Retained Accessory Power (keeps your radio on ~10 mins. after key is off, yellow wire on my Bose radio). Plugged XM into cig. lighter underneath console.

Only visible wires are the antenna wire and power where they connect to the head unit. XM stays on as long as radio is getting power through RAP, and I get full reception through the spoiler.

Putting XM in a third Gen is like putting a sidewinder missle on a Sopwith Camel

Just playing

I have an older Sirius unit in mine. I managed to just fit it in the little cubbyhole thing under the radio. There's a picture or two of it in my sig on the first page I believe. I mounted my antenna on the dash, but that was a bad move. Here in about half an hour I'm going outside to move it to the top of the car, between thbe t-tops.

First off, Nice car! Unfortunately my cubbyhole is MUCH smaller than yours (they changed in 97 +). Don't really think that would work although since I don't smoke I'm thinking of removing the ashtray and fitting it there, it looks like a nigh perfect fit, just one thing bothers me... I don't know if I can remove the Ash Tray without hacking the center console...

Wait, is this in the 06 CC or the 06 Z06???

j/k

I have Roady 2, What did you use to mount it with? If I'm not mistaken that area would be under the glovebox, just infront of the passenger side door on the right hand side of the car correct?

the roady2 is a different design than mine so my mounting won't work. mine has a hide-away box that i hid in the kick pannel and then a dongle screen that comes out my center console, works great for me.

I see, I was thinking about erasing the Ash Tray and mounting it UNDER there since I don't smoke nor do I ever intend... Only, I'm not sure if the Ashtray can be removed without hacking the entire console and even if I do remove it... I'm still not sure if it will be a perfect fit / what to use to mount it with because it will fall from there.

Mine came with a vent mount for it. I used that and put it in the top-right center vent. I ran the power adapter straight down to the accessory input so that doesn't look too bad at all. You can barely see the wire. The hardest part was mounting the antenna. After getting fed up with finding all the places it couldn't go. I decided to mount it inside the car. Since we have that insanely long dash i just ran it as close to the windshield as possible and stuck it with some velcro, just pulled the wire straight back, rolled up the excess and stuck it behind the receiver. All in all it doesn't look too bad and i still get good reception with the antenna being inside the car.

I have surius and a sat/ready HU. However, for the antenna location, I came out of the hatch from the headliner and mounted on the roof behind the ttops. Looks nice and clean and have no problems with reception(Plus its black on black and very discreet looking).

They say that the antenna should be mounted to a metal surface but obviously they werent thinking that the majority of the newer cars makes that next to impossible.

Awsome... I'm not totally sure but I believe our T-Bar actually is metal.. (Usually Black on Most F-Bodies, runs up from the back of the Driverside to the back of the Passengerside door).

I don't believe it is. It's plastic I think and probably metal underneath for structural integrity. I used an adhesive to mount it as I don't plan on removing it accept when I repaint the car and then it won't matter.
