Help With 97 Z28 Stereo!!!
Help With 97 Z28 Stereo!!!
I have a 97 Z28 with a stock stereo. From the looks of it I have 6 speakers. Doors, Sail Panel, Hatch and it looks like there is a factory amp in the spare tire area. It sounds great, but I have a Pioneer DEH-9600MP head unit that I want to install. Now can I install that head unit and still be able to use all 6 speakers and factory amp or will it mess everything up?
Re: Help With 97 Z28 Stereo!!!
I can tell you with my factory cd changer I couldn't change my stereo. No one makes a cable to connect a Pioneer stereo to a Delco changer, one of those deals. So I dumped the changer.
In your case as far as your speakers they will all work through the harness for the stereo. As far as the amp I think you'll have to splice it to hook it up.

Re: Help With 97 Z28 Stereo!!!
You should be able to buy a wiring harness so that you don't even have to cut any wires to hook up your head unit. I am in the process of replacing all my crap on my '01 T/A. Your head unit may only send signal to some of the speakers though, I'm not sure. My stereo was half out when I put in my aftermarket H/U, but with it hooked up through the Delco amp, the stock front speakers (the only ones still in the car) still worked fine. You should still get sound, just might not have the rear fill speakers (who cares).

Just buy the standard 88+ GM harness and you should be good to go. Bose/Monsoon amps are current sensing which is basically plug and play for putting in new radios. Mine plugged right up with my bose along with every other GM car I've done at work.
