monsoon and xm radio
Hello. tring to find out if the Monsoon deck in a 2001 Firebird has a aux imput on it, before I go and tear the dash apart.
This is a friends car and I do not want to do any un-nessary surgery on it. Thanks.

I'm in the middle of tearing apart my '01 T/A with the Monsoon. The back of the head unit does have an input for the Delco CD changer, and I am pretty sure that the wiring runs all the way to the back of the car, under the driver's side trim panel in the hatch area. You MAY be able to get some sort of adapter to get this to work, but I'm not sure. To get this trim piece off, just give it a good pull. It doesn't have the locking things like the one over the spare tire, just some of those plastic trim holders.
If you have to do "surgery", the hardest part of getting to the back of the head unit and wiring is pulling the head unit out enough to be able to unplug the antenna/wiring harnesses (there are two). GM didn't give us very much slack in the antenna wire. Let me know if you have any other questions, I could probably borrow a digital camera and send you some pics if you want before you start pulling stuff apart. My car looks like a race car right now -- no interior except for dashboard and driver's seat!!

Yup, there's a device called AUX-BOX sold by Pac Audio. If you're hooking up an iPod, go with the AUX-POD product for even better control.
