BCM - Radio and Windows (97)

I am having trouble with my Radio and Windows going out at the same -- when I hit a bump, etc -- so after searching around I narrowed the problem down to my BCM. My Chilton's manual had nothing on it, so I searched the forums some more and found the general location.

Once I found it, I wiggled the cables around at each connection trying to find if there was a connection problem. I found which connection it is, but I can't get the thing off. The image is looking upwards at the connection/plug -- it's the one with the Red/Black/Grey thick wires running to it. I found that when I pushed a flat-head screwdriver against the grey, plastic clip piece the radio and power windows would become functional again.

I know this sounds kinda stupid, but I feel like I'm gonna break the thing: Does anyone know how to get the plastic connection to come apart?
(the part where the black connection clips into the BCM module?)

Your picture is not the best I can't see what kind of plug it has on it.
Where is this BCM module at?
Maybe I can get to it on my car and tell you how it comes out.

I think the location is what is making it difficult for me to figure out how the clip comes out. The module is located on the passenger side up behind the kick-panel. The module is basically attached to the dash.

The picture is actually looking up from the floorboard. I cant get any tools in there to pop the clip in to pull it down. I know I've seen a few other posts of people having the same Radio-Window-BCM problem so I was hoping someone may have some tips.

Re: BCM - Radio and Windows (97)

Once the actual module was pulled out, it was a lot easier to pop the clips off and pull the connections off. All the connections (plugs) look good and I popped it open and followed on the traces on the board -- which all look good. Is there any more information online about what is involved in actually replacing the BCM?

I thought I heard someone else say that you couldn't just purchase a new BCM and install it. That you would need to have it reprogrammed?

I also heard that if you were to get a used BCM out of another car that you would need the key/barrel from the steering column of the other car. Can anyone confirm any of this information or what is necessary in swapping out the BCM?

A NEW BCM programs itself to your key the first time it is turned on. If you get a used on, you need the KEY (or key pellet resistance) from the car it came from.

Re: BCM - Radio and Windows (97)

I just installed a new BCM in my car a month ago. All I did was plug the new BCM in and follow the directions on Shbox's website for 1996-1997 Keyless Entry Programming and eveyrthing works like new. I dont know if you have Keyless entry, but, thats how things worked out for me. I have an extra BCM also if needed.
