250 shot on a stock crank?

basically i am doing a rebuild. i want something faster. i figured the most economical way to do this is to spray. i was looking at sprayiong either a 200 shot or a 250 shot. the engine is just a 355, forged rods/pistons, ported heads, gm847 cam, but a stock crank and the stock 2 bolt main block. am i asking for death with this, or is this an ok setup that will be ok to spray once or twice a month. i really know absolutely nothing about nitrous, or how hard it is on parts, so i figured now is a great time to learn

Thats a fairly similar combo that i am building as well. do yourself a favor and stud the 2 bolt mains at least. I went this route because I didn't have a ton of money to spare, but need to get it done. I also am going to be spraying nitrous (150 shot), I don't think it will be a problem. 200, should be OK...250, now your pushing it. Alot of guys spray 150-200 on stock bottom ends, but thats a guessing game from what I understand. I think you will be fine with some spray, start with smaller shots and progress from there. Also just make sure that you take all the the proper precautions for spray, colder plugs, window switch, bottle heater, etc, etc.

curious aswell what the stock crank can handle. Maybe if you two stage it it will last?

There was one guy running low 9's on a 300 shot on a stock crank, but it was a crankwalking time bomb.

I'm going to probably use a stock crank with a 200 shot, that'd be alright safe.

a new cast crank would be stonger than the stocker, if I was building a motor I would shell out the extra money for it. You should go forged if you want it to last.

If your engine is making say 450 HP now and you add 250 HP that's 700 HP! That's a lot to ask of a stock crank and block.

I have sprayed two bottles @ 250 HP on my stock crank. Obviously that doesn't mean it won't break next time I spray it, but FWIW it hasn't yet.

I've been spraying a 150 shot for a few years, always pump gas, always untouched stock bottom end. 95k miles now, and the motor is running stronger than it ever has. 150 shot is definately not pushing it IMO.

I'd say 200 shot is perfectly safe on a stock crank, anything more than that....well, don't be so budget oriented. I personally wouldn't spend the time rebuilding a motor and only stick w/ 2-bolt mains; I'd rather work overtime at work to save up for a splay 4-bolt setup. But I've come to realize if you do it right the first time, you'll be a lot happier in the end, and spend less money.

Amen to that man. But we all like to push the envelope a little, just to see how far we can push it. As fun as it is though, the results are always a bummer. Im working on a shortblock now for a powerdyne kit that I should get about 6 psi intercooled and then adding a 100-150 shot on top of that. I could hack together my spare stock LT1 with some forged pistons and rods and re-use the crank and most likely be ok. But like he said,......why would you go through all that trouble and $$ to risk blowin the whole thing up and f*ckin' up the pistons and rods and possibly the block and heads too. Just hold off a little longer and at least upgrade to an aftermarket crank if not a forged piece and save yourself the headache and woes to come later from being cheap and/or in a hurry NOW. Believe what were telling you, Im slowly learning this myself.
