305fan 07-18-2005, 10:48 PM After the convertible was approved I beleive the coupe version was dead
Car and Driver quoted Automotive news as saying that the coupe has a good chance for a 2007 model
Anyine else hear this?
This would be great. Cheaper, lighter and faster the convertible :D
Convertibles are nice but I would never want one for a daily driver. The Solstice coupe had some classic lines to it as well.
I could see a coupe outselling the convertible.
guionM 07-18-2005, 11:26 PM Last I heard there was a Kappa coupe planned for another GM division.
I will qualify this by saying I don't know how true it is.
Josh452 07-18-2005, 11:56 PM I'm fairly certain it is in development now along with the turbo Sol. If not in development, it's certainly on the drawing board and very near approval.

Convertables have come a long way. They make great daily drivers now that they dont leak and the wind noise is controlled.
Sweet. In St. Louis, you only get a few good months a year for convertable season. Cheaper, lighter, less maintenance  I hope they do a coupe for the Sky Redline.
NikiVee 07-19-2005, 09:51 AM There is a coupe version being developed for the Solstice. Pontiac would like to race the Solstice in the SCCA events, but the rules require a hardtop. There are two thoughts. One is a new coupe version of the Solstice, the other is a removable hardtop version.

A removable hardtop would make this car a must buy for most people.
Gripenfelter 07-19-2005, 10:05 AM Maybe they'll call it the Firebird. :p
1990 Turbo Grand Prix 07-19-2005, 10:11 AM There are two thoughts. One is a new coupe version of the Solstice, the other is a removable hardtop version.GM had told us this is being developed as we speak. It may even be validated by now. This was a concern brough up in many Solstice training modules. I would like to think that we'll see it in 2007MY, if not sooner.

i agree. as cool as the solctice is, the sky is much better looking. and i think it too would look and perform great in a coupe form.

Hmmm... Chevy the VOLUME brand is without a Kappa at all.
And people have been buzzing about seeing a LOT of new unexpect stuff soon. Wasn't there also reports of a Chevy Kappa being tested in Az?

Would that be a stretched 2+2 Kappa with room for eight? (As in V8.) :D

No but it could be a hart top or targa top 4/6 cly Chevy 2 seater for less than the Solstice!!!
Jason E 07-19-2005, 11:32 AM C&D indeed did report a Solstice coupe is being worked on for an '07 debut...it did NOT say it was necessarily just a removable hardtop for the convertbile, either :) I was under the impression this is a full blown coupe!
Maybe I was wrong to suspect all the doom and gloom for Pontiac too quickly?
IREngineer 07-19-2005, 12:41 PM There is a lot of dis-information floating around right now. Let the dust settle a little before we get too excited.
jrp4uc 07-19-2005, 02:46 PM Autoweek said a removable hardtop was planned for the Solstice roadster. FRC has not been confirmed.
Raven99 07-19-2005, 08:28 PM I have heard of the convertible hardtop version of the Solstice in development. That would be nice, but if Pontiac or Saturn makes a genuine coupe version of the Solstice or Sky then I am first in line to drop a deposit down on one! :D

you are right but I live in a climate where we get winter. Snow and freezing temps. I would never subject my self to driving a convertible in those conditions. Or put the car throught that :D
Dwarf Killer 07-20-2005, 12:14 AM It won't sell. It's a nice car with no market. After the intial orders are filled sales will taper off.

we'll see. Fieros sold very well for the first few years---and they were less then steallar. The best were in 88 but by then people had become very wary of them. So , if they get the Solstice right.....it should not suffer the same fate.

The fiero was a media darling and sold like hotcakes until the fire issues. The press made this a widely known problem and the car could not recover from it. Even though the instances were very low and only in early models. There is not much chance of a probem like that coming up in present day cars.

I do also. I would not drive the coupe or convertable in the winter. Thats why I have trucks as well!

I second that!
If there's a Sky coupe, I may have to own one. :)
gtjeff 07-21-2005, 12:36 AM The Miata is only currently selling around 10,000 units in the US, the decision by GM to build 2 competitors is very questionable. On top of that the hydroformed body panels will limit production since it is a very time consuming process.
Now if one of the cars had been a 2 seat coupe exclusively (maybe even mid-engine), that would have been a better strategy.
I wouldnt be suprised to see a price increase for 07 solstice, so that the car might actually turn a profit.
