clutch slipping,rear main oil seal
hey i tihnk my rear main oil seal is leakin on my new SLP clutch and making it slip. What would i need to replace to correct this. Just a clutch plate or the whole clutch??
Re: clutch slipping, rear main oil seal
There may be other/different surprises waiting for you when you take the thing apart. My original clutch was slipping like crazy at 40K miles and I finally got around to taking it apart. I had already fixed the intake manifold leak so if that had been the cause, at least I would not have the same clutch problem in the future. It turns out it was not the intake manifold leak or the rear main seal that was the culprit (both were dry as a bone).
The leak was coming from the back of the oil pan, dripping onto the clutch dust shield then down onto the flywheel which threw it onto the clutch. The inside of the bellhousing was caked with oil.
So anyway, new oil pan gasket with a fair bit of RTV, rear main seal, rear main seal housing to block gasket, McLeod Single disk and flywheel, McLeod master cylinder, tranny output shaft seal (was leaking as well) and so on.
I hope it's not the oil pan gasket - that's a real pain to replace.
Do these cars have to leak in order to go fast?
Good luck.
