Talking Passed inspection

This might not sound like a big deal, but here in Delaware they recently started measuring sound levels. I was worried about failing that part of the inspection with the AS&M headers and Borla cat back. At 2500rpm they measured 95.2db. I think 96 or 98 is passing.

Now for the funny part. After the emissions test the guy asked me what I had done to the car. I told him just some bolt ons and some tuning. He then told me it was almost the cleanest car they had ever tested. hydrocarbons were 20ppm and CO% was .08. Can anybody figure out what they did wrong? (the answer is in my sig)

Did you have the cutout in a position that restricted exhaust output to their sniffer?

Re: Passed inspection

I guess you could say that. The cut out was closed.

I wasn't my fault they chose the right side tail pipe to test the emissions.

The passenger side tailpipe bolts up at a 3 bolt flange to the intermediate pipe. QTP make an electric valve to install there. With the valve closed, all the exhaust goes through the muffler and out the drivers side. No exhaust comes out the passenger side.

Re: Passed inspection

You would have to think something is funny when a dual exhaust car only has sound comming from one of the tail pipes.

Yup...Notice any better performance from the cutout placed there? I read your sig. and didnt think that it would be placed there?? I would think It would be better to put in the y pipe?? Or maybe it there for scaring ricers not neccesariy performance?

Re: Passed inspection

You do notice a power increase with the cut out open. It would probably make a bit more power placed in front of the cat. But I wasn't installing it for maximum power. The Borla system already had provisions to mout it there, and I use it to taylor the sound of the exhaust. I usually keep it cracked open to make it a tab bit louder.
