Looks like the drain plug has been completely stripped to the max so I need to get a new pan. Anybody know where I can get a decent one that isn't too pricey? Is there anything in particular I should know before replacing it?

Also, please tell me I don't have to take the whole engine out like I just got done reading on another board :(

Why not get a stock one from jason or dal? I know the LT1 pans were like 60 so an LS1 should be 100 or so since it's aluminum.

I've been thinking of getting one of these to protect the threads in my pan when they become available:

http://www.valuedrain.com/

If they had them now, you could use JB Weld to permanently affix the outer portion. Lot better than an oil pan change, cheaper too. Maybe they have a preproduction piece you can beg for.

In the early '80s, I worked at a Quick Lube. We kept an assortment of oversize, self-tapping drain plugs, for these situations.

I would get a self tapping plug like was mentioned above before I would change the pan.
