Pandamonkey 04-11-2005, 12:37 AM My folks came back from winter vacation to discover I had been using their garage to store my Camaro.
I simply put a day permit on and removed it to my place.:)
Was on the highway and a Ford truck with white headlights was coming up fast behind me.
Nobody ahead of me, and it was a new F150 Harly Davidson Ed.
I allowed it to get close and then I shifted down to 4th and put my foot in it.
He didn't go away.......he slowly crept up until he was right beside me and then began to fall slowly behind.
We went to the top of fifth and a little ways into sixth and he wasn't really going away like I expected.
We slowed down to highway speed for an officer who had someone pulled over up ahead.........and then gave it again when we were safely past.
Once again.........I was verrry slooowwly creeping ahead......
That truck had balls!
Or possibly my car is slow.......:shame:
Was fun anyhow.:D
Muskys SS 04-11-2005, 01:24 AM Perhaps the reason you didn't take off on him was that you started the race in 4th gear. You would have to be going at least 155km/h to get a strong pull in 4th. And you say you went to the top of 5th... That means you should of been going 240-250km/h. With the mods you have your shift points should be as follows. 1st to 2nd shift: 70km/h, 2nd to 3rd shift: 115km/h, 3rd to 4th shift: 155km/h, and 4th to 5th shift: 200km/h.
These #'s are approx. for hitting around 5700rpm shift points just before the stock rev limit.
Camaro ChriSS 04-11-2005, 01:27 AM Not bad fun by the sounds of it! I think starting in 03 or so they made those with the blown engine, which would make a help of a difference. I think one pulley larger than the Lightning. Could you tell if it had the supercharged badging? Of course, it wouldn't have hung with you otherwise, I'm sure, so it had to be the s/c version.
Pandamonkey 04-11-2005, 02:01 AM It looked just like this one. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4542145354&category=6219&sspagename=WDVW)
Jebus! Were we going that fast?!?!
I don't really watch my speedo at those high of speeds.......I glance at the tach, and mostly watch the road.
93formula 04-12-2005, 03:42 AM great now hes gonna go tell his buddies he kept up to a camaro. should have slowed to 100kmh, brought your revs up to about 4500rpm then dropped into 2nd, you would have left him behind like last weeks news. ive taken lightnings out on the highway.
i dont think the HD f150s come with blowers, i think its the lightnings and the roush f150s. the only reason he kept up was because you dropped into 4th. or maybe he had naws, LOL

93formula 04-12-2005, 06:09 PM really??? well nonetheless its still a 4500lb pig on wheels. it shouldnt have kept up a to a 4th gen
1quickgt 04-12-2005, 07:11 PM ya my buddie had a 03 lighting i raced him bone stock and we were pretty much tied if it was a 1/4 mile race a i woulda won...but non the lees good win man :)

Yep the new 2 tone HD trucks have a blower as well.
93formula 04-12-2005, 08:47 PM what year did the HDs start putting on a blower?? or were they always equipped with blowers???
Pandamonkey 04-12-2005, 09:37 PM really??? well nonetheless its still a 4500lb pig on wheels. it shouldnt have kept up a to a 4th gen
:shame:
I know........but what can I say......I was stunned too.
All I can think of is - it must have been modded.
It was a young guy driving.
I soooo wished I could have blown him away.......I need a power adder now....
93formula 04-12-2005, 10:33 PM you got cai and exhaust, buy some headers and a cam;)
Pandamonkey 04-12-2005, 10:39 PM you got cai and exhaust, buy some headers and a cam;)
Those added with a nice flowing set of heads and I think I could have shown that truck a thing or two!;)
93formula 04-12-2005, 10:43 PM youd be amazed at how much a difference headers and cai will improve your car. get a good set of headers for now and a orp.
raene 04-12-2005, 11:09 PM Weight makes much less of a difference when you're up to speed. Land speed cars don't really bother with weight reductions for this reason. Air resistance gets to be a bigger factor. I still don't see how a truck could've had better air resistance than the Camaro, but whatever :D
I'd also be curious to see how the gear ratios on the truck compare to the Camaro. Perhaps while you had to go to the tallest gear he could leave it in the 2nd tallest, etc. He'd get a nice torque advantage on you that way.

how much you figure wiht the cai & headers :D

i still think its only because he downshifted into 4th.
93formula 04-13-2005, 08:52 PM how much you figure wiht the cai & headers :D
roughly 30
Muskys SS 04-13-2005, 10:31 PM i still think its only because he downshifted into 4th.
Agreed. Being in the wrong gear at the wrong time is the worst.
Pandamonkey 04-14-2005, 12:08 AM Wow!
Talk about kickin a guy while he's down!:p
I was cruising at 110km/h in sixth - and you guys think I should have gone down to third?
That would make for about about 1 second of third gear and then I would have to shift into 4th before I hit the rev limiter.....
I'm not hot on rev matching......I'd just as soon not attempt it and be safe than screw it up and mess something expensive up for good.:shame:
Really though........would it have helped me that much? We raced quite a ways into 6th gear, so there was plenty of time to make up.
I did win the race......he was behind me.
Muskys SS 04-14-2005, 12:17 AM Yes you should of been in 3rd. 110km/h is the start of 3rd gear when racing. You should keep it in 3rd until around 155km/h. According to your shift points you'd be shifting at 4000rpm but that is when the LT1's come alive. 4000rpm is where peak torque is so that's where you want to start off at, not end at. No wonder he was able to stay with you. You'd kill him if you shifted at the right time. And yes it makes a big difference. There is no reason for you to be in 6th gear in a race. You can peg the speedo in 5th gear. 5500-5600 rpm is a safe point to shift at with no worries of over-reving.
Not trying to kick you while your down. :) But if you let another ford truck get close to you again then maybe I will :D
93formula 04-14-2005, 03:23 AM LOL good reply, but when i race i slow down to below 100 then drop into 2nd. man does the lt1 scream then:D
Tw!tchb!tch 04-14-2005, 12:27 PM what they said ,
come out with us this year its awsome !! By the end of last year we were getting fast as hell , after last year I learned to drop it straight into first at 60K or under then chop second, third oh baby !!! People that pick a fight from a roll are like wtf just happened
A silver BMW M3 ( new style ) picked a fight coming home from Java Hut . . . . i was in 5th or 6th cruising at aprox 100km and he screams up along side and hammers the brakes. ( keep in mind the car is quiet at this rpm ) I counted off three honks and went straight into second gear as soon as his hood jumped . . . I betcha it sounded like the gates of hell opened up on his ass . . . poor bastard :p
Camaro ChriSS 04-14-2005, 12:48 PM Panda, just think of it as constructive criticism. ;) I'd expect the same.
Being an A4, I've never been very keen on rolling start races, but you take what you can get. I think the converter and heads should help a tad now. I'll have to try some rolling start races against some cars.
93formula 04-14-2005, 05:21 PM and with second gear drops you will beat cars you shouldnt beat. only because most people are in the wrong gear or dont know how to race/when to shift.
Pandamonkey 04-14-2005, 11:21 PM I consider this all good information and a valuable talk.:)
Thanks guys!:thumb:
Next time I won't almost let a stupid truck keep up.
I need to know more about rev matching.......:shame:
93formula 04-14-2005, 11:59 PM all you gotta do is bring your revs up before letting the clutch engage. so basically you press the clutch pedal, drop into your desired gear, bring the revs up on your motor, then lift your foot off the clutch while continuing to press the gas.

Gord's Green Z28 04-16-2005, 01:43 AM Sounds like driver error on Monkey's part. :p
Get an automatic and a Vigi 3600 and you'll be laughing. Highway driving is where the 2.73's shine. At 110km, you're gonna drop into 2nd gear at around 4000 RPM. Perrrrrrfect.

How come everyone posts like I lost the race?
This monkey was ahead every step of the way:irk:
Meh.......auto's are boring to me - my Blazer is the first one I've ever had, if they had made it in a stick I would have bought that........but no....:blah:
Gord's Green Z28 04-17-2005, 04:38 PM This is street racing, not pro stock racing. You're supposed to pull ahead and slay them. Not get out the camera for a photo finish.

It's cause you only kicked him in the balls when you could have a** raped a truck that 1000lbs heavier
