Propper Engine Break In Procedure?

I've never really noticed this subject being discussed before on this board, so I thought I'd bring it up.

Any opinions?

It really sounds like a logical aproach to engine break in procedure. I have also seen many motors broken in on a dyno. That is how I am gonna break in my engine when its time.

If its a roller cam Ive always been told to let it rip once it stops smokin, and nowadays with the ring materials out there it doesnt take long at all to seal the cylinders up. My 381 smoked for maybe 5 minutes at the most, and it wasnt much at all, I still took it easy for 500 miles to break in the clutch anyway.

The track, the dyno, highway on-ramps... all good places for motor break in.

Yep... you gotta get pressure on the rings to get them to seal.

what about slowing the car with the engine. would that help during break in?

Yup, that's the way I broke in the engine on the Hawk, our Trailblazer, and my Truck. None use oil. The trailblazer has 108,xxx miles on it. Truck has 17,xxx (9 months old), and the Hawk has 11,000 rough driving miles on it. As a matter of fact, I drove my friends truck, ours happen to be exactly the same truck (CA Edition, 04 Silverado), and mine feels much more powerful than his, only difference being a set of shorty headers on my truck.
