What all headers would you guys recomend for a 89 Iroc-Z?
It currantly has a 305, but planning on swaping to a 350 next year, its ok if I loose some low end on the 305 if they will work good with the 350(moderatly built)

Thanks for any recommendations everybody

SLP or Hooker

SLP makes stainless steel headers with a matching Y-pipe. Either 1-5/8" primary size or 1-3/4". If you ever plan to mkae GOOD power with your new 350 engine, get the 1-3/4"

Hooker also makes a SWEET sweet set of LongTube headers with 3" flanges. You can get those coated in a silver ceramic from JEt Hot Coatings for like $550-600. Those work nicely on a big cube motor!! THEY don't come with a Y-pipe though..Your options are to either run a true dual exhaist system that would have to be custom made with the mufflers of your choice, or you can have a Y-pipe custom made, then you can use any 3" or 4" single exhaust system. I would have the Y pipe made and run a 4" mufflex system:D That's just me though

Issues? My 305 has 1-3/4" SLP headers on it now with the Y pipe. Everything fits really really good BUT...the pasenger side REARward bolt, closest to the firewall has issues. I can't gt a bolt in it!!! So I left it like that...it burnt thru the gasket...tomorrow i need to redo that, hopefully i don't have to drill the flange TOO much...later man

Gonna have to go with Hooker or SLP. SLP is a little expensive though.

Make sure whatever they are that you get them Jet-coated. Headers and the y-pipe.

I am going to have to agree with Eric. I had Hooker shorties on my 86 T/A. They were user friendly to install. I did'nt have mine coated and within a year or two they were needing replacement. They rusted out quick. So whatever you get, get them coated. I personally liked the hookers cause there were no air tubes on them.I like to pollute.... Not really but my car had all the smog stuff removed. They are the only ones I am framiliar with that don't have the air tubes. My buddy has the long tubes that Denny was talking about coated and all.He had between $6-$700 wrapped up in those but the are sweeeettttttttt. those also have no air tubes.

If your looking to save money, then get the hedman headers like I did. they fit (with one dent needed)pretty good and only cost like $90 from summit. they are 15/8" though. they are also available coated for like $200 or so total. plug changes are pretty easy(one plug on ea. head that needs to be taken out w/wrench). but if I had the money, Id def. get coated longtube hooker super comps.

If you really want a nice set of headers that work and are long tube, call Gary Cook at 586-949-3400. He can hook you up with a custom made set of long tube 1 3/4 headers with a 3 1/2" collector to a 3 1/2" Y-pipe for a price thats close to what you'd pay for "out of the box" headers.

I am having a set made in the next few months as the project comes along. He can even make stepped headers if you so desire.

Thumbs up to the Hooker long-tubes!!!!
I've got them on my 5.7 tpi and love the sound. Some of the plugs are hard to get to but they look nice. They are coated. Coating is starting to come off in some areas. Car is lowered one inch with Hotchkis springs and headers are slightly low. Just gotta be careful!

i really like my dynomax.............

i'm not going to be needing them much longer as i need a larger dia. and plan to sell my whole exhaust setup. it's your typical dynomax jet coat "ceramic" header, 3" setup with single piping to a 2 chamber flowmaster w/single out. sounds great and works really well...it's been on my car now for a little over 2 years but most of that time was in the shop or storage. i've got roughly 1100 into it but i obviously don't want that so email or pm me and let me know if your intrested....

i also have my somewhat stock l98 if your just looking a cheap pickup.

I have a set of DynoMax Headers 1 5/8 that I had on my 87 GTA with a ZZ3 Crate motor in it. They worked pretty well and was happy with them. Mine still has the 3 wire O2 sensor in them. If you are looking just for a bargin, $40 and they are yours.

Good Luck Either Way............

Actually I have on my car Edelbrock TES Headers w/ a 3 inch collector at the y-pipe. I like them and there good enough for my mild 305. But if I wanted to get serious I would go with what I said before.
