05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
Don't know if this is old news or not but I went to the GM In Motion Test Drive today. Pretty dissapointing overall since they didn't let you have any fun at all in the 04 gto and the vette, cts-v course was two straights and a boring turn. Anyway, they had a new 05 gto strapped to a dynojet. I hung around till they did the run, expecting to see some good numbers. When they did though, all it could squeak out was 327 hp at the wheels. This is the LS2 powered one we're talking about here. It was an auto and the exhaust sounded a little weird, kinda dirty, but still, I almost make the same damn power with two mods. The LS1 goat dynoed over 300 at the wheels didn't it, so what's going on?
Re: 05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
Well it's the 04 6spd's that are dynoing just over 300 (mine did 303/329), but I know the LS1 Goat's ran pretty rich until they broke in around 5000 miles and they tend to run and dyno slower until then. I'd like to see what it would do if the car was fully broken in.

I was there, I was err... escorted from the car because I wanted to see what the hype was about.
Before that happened the guy checked the mileage on the car, its was like 190, I'm sure that makes a huge difference, because it didnt feel blisteringly fast.

Re: 05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
I can understand that but I doubt it's going to pick up enough to really shine. Also, somehow the announcer said that it ran 13.00 at 109 according to the dyno. Don't know how he got that info unless it's from a gtech or something. Now that I think about though, the exhaust really sounded weird. It sounded almost like a small engine mototrcyle, like a 125 or 250. Had a winding tingy noise to it, not the burbly noise like a normal v8
Re: 05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
Alot of LS1's, hell the Gen 3's for that matter, tend to dyno a decent amount better after 5/10,000 miles to break in. My Camaro was that way, and my truck seems to be a tad better now that i am alost at the 10,000 mark.

went to the show here in Orlando, Everyone said the GTO sounded awsome
and we got to drive it without supervision
my fiancee's nephew got to do the pull and he got about that to the rear wheels..332 or something with a 13 second time..

Re: 05 GTO Dyno, WTF?
Air quality , engine temp , type of dyno all factor in RW power figures . That same car on a different day , different conditions may dyno with considerably higher dyno #'s . People put to much faith in dyno #'s , its a great tool yes , but too many other things factor in to a low or high dyno # to use it as the gospel . Fact is , the heavy 05 GTO's are running the # and thats what counts
I still wonder what was up with the exhaust note though. It's probalylived its whole life on that dyno too, doing one pull every hour for 9 hrs, 3 days a city, and who knows how many cities. They didn't even really let it warm up, just started it and let it run for the two or three minutes it took for the announcer to babble on and get someone in the car, then BAM, full throttle. BTW, did you get to drive the 04 or 05? Here in San Francisco, it was the 04, but it was considered a "passenger car" so it was with the corrolas, camrys, civic si, and the g6
Anyway, their rules were: no over 35, and no tire squealing
I stretched that out a little but they were watching me the whole day since I had a warning mark on my wristband (you'd be suprised at how fast they get mad when you get an escalade to slide the back end out at about 30 mph
I was famous the whole day)
