Powertrax Posi Question

i wanna get the powertrax posi unit, its more like a mini spool but the ability to act like a limited slip, and it is made just for open rear ends like mine....you can put this in without even touching the ring and pinion, but i want to change my gears to 3.73's, and they are 2.73's right now...what do i do, they make 3.73's for 2 series carriers am i right? where can i find these for a realatively low price???

Sure , if your looking for a ticking time bomb.. Your stock differential was never designed to house a powertrax or e-z locker.

seriously, all the reviews on the internet said that it took all the abuse they could throw at it...so I should get like an eaton posi unit then?

You might as well get an Eaton, much stronger than stock open carrier and better posi action IMO. If you're switching the ring and pinion, you have to get the rear re-shimmed for proper set-up anyway and that defeats the purpose of the PowerTrax slipping in the stock carrier. I also recommend a solid pinion spacer instead of a crush sleeve to be installed, too. I smoked a ring gear in less than a year of the Eaton/3.73 install. Same Eaton, new gears and solid spacer and it's still going strong after 1+yr.

alright, i'm taking all the stuff out myself, then ill start puttin it all back together in my automotive class, but when i get to the part of realigning the ring and pinion i'm gonna take it to a mechanic that actually has the right tools and stuff, then i know its done right, then i'll finish putting it back together from there...i'm getting the install kit with the posi and gears, its actually a big package, i'll just switch out the crush sleeve for a solid spacer...
