Re: Race Track Noise Legislation pending in New Jersey

OK...I live in Maryland. There are axactly 4 things I ever go to NJ for. I race at Englishtown and Atco, I like Great Adventure and my buddy, Brian, lives there. Without drag racing in NJ, that cuts out 2 of the reasons to go.

Does NJ's governing body realize how much money that Old Bridge brings to that area? It's another attemp at people trying to stop something just because they don't understand it.

It's a real shame because after Maple Grove, Englishtown is one of the nicest facilities for quite some distance.

What does puzzle me about Englishtown is this... They have a "muffled car" noise ordinance for Friday and Saturday street racing. Yet they have "thrill shows" containing jet cars, wheel standers, and monster trucks that they run on Wednesday nights. Some of these events go on past 11:00 PM. Last time I checked a jet car or Supercharged monster truck is usually louder than my '93 Camaro with the cut-out open.

Re: Race Track Noise Legislation pending in New Jersey

This has been in the works for quite some time... if this make it into NJ state Law we can kiss all the tracks goodbye. The limitations on them will be so strict that none of the tracks will draw enough business to to remain open.

Frank, to answer you question... E-town along with all the other tracks have local noise limitations on them right now. thats why they have to keep it quiet for certain nights. But they have a limited number of "freebie" days where they can lift the noise regulations. All of those days are used for the thrill shows, big money races, and the national NHRA summer nationals. I could be wrong here but I belive they have 18 days for lifting the regulation. E-town just has very close neighbors who speak up much more that the racers. Atco belive it or not also has "street muffled" nights but they dont enforce it as much because... well, they dont have neighbors with a $450k house living 500 feet from the starting line. There just arent as many people to complain but the rules are still there. If the law is passed it will be enforced. And I will have to find a new place to race.

I just hope everyone else can find a track... if not it will eventually move to the street.

We are fortunate to have alot of tracks in the area and you notice we dont have a huge street racing problem. Down south in some places there are no tracks for hundreds of miles and they have huge street racing problems. go figure...

It's pretty retarded. I mean, as with anyone else, I don't like loud noises disturbing me at home. But then again, I didn't buy/build a house next to a freaking drag strip! The dragstrip was there before the homes! So what do they expect? If it bothers them they shouldn't have decided to live there! Morons.

I feel the same way but unfortunately not everyone is that bright. The sad part is that if we as racers do not voice our opinion then the morons just might win. In the end we will not have racetracks to go to.

This sort of thing happens all the time. Buy a house next to a farm or ladfill and it stinks. next to an airport and its noisey. Ever notice that just about every major road out there now has sound barriers allong both sides? Its because some moron built a house on the shoulder and wants it quiet .

The only way to keep what we have is to stand up for your rights and make a phone call, or write a letter... it does make a difference.

I agree about not sitting by passively - our voices need to be heard. In the interests of fairness though, the noise barriers and roads are different. At least in built up areas, where you see most of the noise barriers, the roads were built through existing neighborhoods. So, it's a little different. Airports though are generally like dragstrips. They were built in rural areas and then development proceeded around them. And then people bitch about the noise

Rich, Snobby Bastards is a pretty fair assessment of these people...Judging from alot of the new homes being built around Englishtown.

Re: Race Track Noise Legislation pending in New Jersey

I dont necessarially think they need to be rich to be snobby. But your right, They dont give up. And we cant either.

Rich, I actually had a particular road in mind when I made that statement. I drive I-95 everyday and have been for the last 7-8 years. There is 1 particular part where I drive past heading to work and it has always been nothing but trees. 6 months ago there was a crew in there clearing the trees. last month the first of 5 homes was completed and cars sitting in the driveway. The scarry thing is that if I was standing on the shoulder of the south bound lanes... I could honestly break a bedroom window by throwing a rock! Personally I would never buy a house like that. But the people who bought that house are probably just like the ones next to the track. In 3 months they will be crying to the township so bad that there will be a construction crew out there for 3 months putting up the sound barriers.

Now who is right? The highway has been there for 50 years but the 3 month old home owners will get the city to break and buy them a 4.5 million dollar, 40ft sound wall... and it will have to match their homes. I just dont understand how in the world innocent, hard working famlies have to pay for that wall with tax money because someone was stupid enough to buy a house that is sitting 100 feet off of I-95...

Its just the way of the world no I guess. people have to live somewhere and the have to have something to bitch about. Personally if I were the governor I would tell those people to live with it or move. The tracks have been there for a long time and bring in alot of money to this state. 1 national NHRA event at E-town every spring brings in more money in 1 weekend than all of the local home owners taxes for 1 year combined! When they begine to realize how much its going to cost them in the long run maybe they will have a second thought.

The stupidest part about Englishtown is that there is the airport right there next to the track and half those planes make more noise than the cars racing.

englishtown owns the airport too...

Im not sure when this could go thru but as of now its in the process of being made into law. Alot of things have to happen for it to become state law but if we stand by and do nothing it will become law.
