I wouldnt do anything, but it happens that I am flying out to Ohio Friday morning.

Get this though... my friends aunt calls him yesterday while we were all playing poker and said that she just got of the phone with her friend in the CIA. He told her that he is flying his family out of florida today because of the huricane. And that it is so powerful or going to be so powerful it is unclassified and the public is not going to be told for fear of mass panic.

We all called :bs:

I wouldn't be so quick to fly that :bs: flag to high.

My military friends were in briefings today about it and the word that came out of it was that Andrew would be considered child's play if Frances hits as strong as she appears to be.

As a long time Florida resident, my status is wait until later in the week and see what happens, however, my happy white butt will head outta town quickly if the need arises.

this one is going to be incredibly strong ...

its a week away and 135mph

there was a hurricane last week in the pacific that broke the wind instrument at 187mph sustained winds!

holly crap

did anyone else catch the 11pm update on channel 2? the weather lady seemed to act odd, kind of disturbed, choaking on her words.

i really hope this one doesn't hit us. my house was fine from charley, but who knows if this one is as powerful as it's expected to be. if it's expected to hit us dead on, i might drive home to sarasota to avoid most of the destruction. it sucked being w/o out power for 2 days, i don't want to go through w/ that again. and who knows what will happen w/ school, will they be lenient if we miss classes?

Well, having lived in Florida almost all my life, and having seen over 100 hurricanes go by, I would add a couple things:

1. It's way too early to tell where this one will go.

2. Under most conditions, if they are heading directly toward us that far out, they will usually not hit us because they turn north way ahead of time. Very rarely do they stay on a straight path, and even less of the time do they turn south again after turning north.

Just my $0.02

Yeah I very much agree with these statements...

Waht scared me is when my mom told me, it looks like its heading for Cuba or us in south florida, then I though, Oh great now its gonna hit Orlando :)

LOL, the CIA investigates hurricanes now? I guess that makes sense since they don't seem to do anything else very well :D

Anyway, like Dave said it's entirely too early to tell exactly where this storm is headed. Alot depends on how strong that ridge pushing down from the north is, and how long it stays around influencing Frances' motion to the west. If/when that ridge weakens that's when the turn to the NW will take place. However, it's not looking like there will be a definite outlook on that until about wednesday. But this storm looks like it will pass through Hebert's Box which typically signals a south Florida hit. Again this is all just speculation at this point.

And the pressure as of 11am was 956mb, with 120mph winds. Which is about dead on, 954mb usually translates to about 125mph winds. While this storm does look impressive it has experienced a little shear over the last day or so and has weakened a bit. It is by no means "unclassified" or more powerful than Andrew(at least not right now). Andrew came ashore with sustained winds of 145mph, gusts to 175mph and a minimum pressure of 922mb. Right now Frances is nowhere near that.

its looking more and more like its going to go north ...

I am not looking forward to another storm after all the damarge form this last one. Debris all over my neighborhood and my yard still... I had back surgery August 10th and it is infected now so I am pretty useless for major things... AGH!!!!!!

I have lived in the Melbourne area for 35 years and have watched countless storms turn away from us at the last moment...hope this one does too...it's a big one. As of now my house is one of the dots on the projected path. The worst part of all is that I am not at all worried about my safety or fresh water or any of that. I am most worried about my car. It will be in a garage but if we take a direct hit my garage door is not going to stand up to those kinds of winds. I'll be watching this one closely.

This thing better turn and turn QUICK...I have one of my best friend's bachelor party friday night that we've been planning for months. I'll be damned if some french storm messes this up for me.

In all seriousness, the models have started to trend a little bit south and a little bit west. By 5pm today we should have a better idea of what this thing is going to do. I've had a gut feeling for the past 2 days or so that it was going to come in through South Florida. If this is the case I want to extend an invitation to any members in that area that need a place to go. I'm up in Ormond Beach, and if it looks like landfall will occur in south Fla. and this thing moves to the NW we should be in "ok" shape. Feel free to drop me an IM or e-mail if anyone down there needs any assistance.

As much as it sounds bad a South Florida Hit would make my life easier in Orlando.... Charley tore us up in my neighborhood. Better to share the joy ;(

I don't know about you guys, but I'm sh!tting my pants right about now. If this thing stays on its current track, it is going to engulf the entire state almost at once. I don't think anywhere in Florida is safe. Combined with its massive size, the slow speed at which it's moving is very scary. We're talking sustained 100+ winds for HOURS and HOURS, not like 1 hour or 2 from Charley. Also, all the debris laying around the state is going to make for projectile city. I don't know what to do. I'm scheduled to work Friday night, I don't think I'll be going. :(

i don't really have a choice at this point, i havn't collected any supplies assuming that i was going to be leaving.

ITs pretty fecked up...

You guys think boarding some windows from the inside woudl be worth it?

I could give a **** if my windows get blown out, just trying to keep some wind out. Plans would be 3in, wood screws through wood and into the frame.

This thing is freaking me out a bit, I am going to be in Orlando.

Off hand anyone know if UCF is going to have any shelters, like you know 1st floor of Math and physics building(Brick and block building that is underground)

I am debating if I am going on campus because I assume they will have some sort of shelter setup. Staying at my place. Or going to my work.

I would assume they would have some sort of shelter on campus...but who knows. My brother lives in the dorms and he got a note slipped under his door today from his RA saying that they have to notify them by 10:00 pm tonight as to what their plans are for the hurricane.

If your windows go out, then chances are your roof will follow quickly after, because the air pressure inside will push the roof up and assist in blowing the roof off. At least this is what I heard from some guy on the radio.

this is true

the first thing to go because of wind pressure is the garage door and the windows because of stuff flying into them.

once your garage door is gone, your house is gone. its a proven fact ... i've seen many discovery channel specials to know this :)

I agree... that all happens, I half know the physics of hurricanes... been around them.

Difference is this is my first one in an apartment building, I am on the 2nd floor of a 3 story building. I technically have no roof or garage.

Guess I better chain my garage door up. Don't want the hawk and the house to go at the same time. Thanks for the insight.

well looks like I will have to put my car in the shop, it is separate from my house, and chain the axle to the posts that run down into the concrete, cuz if it flys away I am sol because I only have pip insurance:(. Ocala lucked out on charlie, they said it would be bad and all we got was a light drizzle. I felt bad for yall down there, watching what was going on on tv was pretty messed up. I live in a trailer too, I aint scared lol, actually i am scared ****less my house will fly away!
