did GM ever have a recall on the misfire problem?

Ok, now before I hear about check the search I have.

Currently my car is down, it wont accelerate above 2000 RPM's without poping, only 2 months ago exactly it did the same thing and I had the #6 plug & wire replaced, I've maybe put 1,000 miles on since.

My mechanic hopefuly gets to it within the next day, but he says he re placed the heat shield and wire cover, I printed out the thing Gig wrote about the "misfire" but it's trying to refer this info to my dad & mechanic. My dad is insistant that I got a bad wire and that they way it came from the factory is correct and this is a freek occurance.

I'm not dealing with this a third time, I called GM and the guy was trying to tell me that something must be wrong with my pistons :rolleyes:

Yes...there was a recall. I'm not sure what years it covered, but there was a recall on the spark plug wires.

I know my 1996 was covered a few years back...I can't recall the details though.

Maybe someone else is good enough to bring up the recall #. I do know that there was one though for a common misfire.

"Condition:

This letter is intended to make you aware that some 1995, 1996, 1997, and 1998 Chevrolet Camaro model vehicles, equipped with a 3.8L V6 engine, may experiment driveablitily complaints, such as rough idle, misfire and/or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), requiring the replacement of spark plug wires. These conditions may be due to a cracked spark plug boots, connector terminals corrosion or unseated terminals.

Action:

To address the above mentioned condition, General Motors is providing owners with special warranty coverage. If this condition occours on your 1995, 1996, 1997, or 1998 Chevrolet Camaro or Pontiac Firebird within 7 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. Other conditions that may cause a similar or different driveability complaints, or cause a Malfuction Indicator Light illumination, that are not a result of the spark plug wire failure are not covered by this special policy. Any repairs that would be necessary due to other conditions would be your responsibility, if you elect to have your dealer provide the service."
