Please list the exact trouble code numbers. Depending on where they come from, the meaning may not be correct. Also provide some basic info about your car (like year model, mods, etc.). The signature is a good place to put that. If you want advice to be accurate as it can be, you need to provide as much info as possible.

P1657 Skip shift/One to four upshift system control circuit

or maybe it was

P1667 Reverse inhibit solenoid control circuit

based on what you are saying about being hard to get into reverse.

Check fuses and wiring/connections to the skip shift or reverse solenoids.

P0100 Mass Air Flow (MAF) insufficient signal activity

Check connection at the MAF. The pink wire is the 12v feed. Sometimes it can get a little flaky. Check it with a meter, if needed. Should have 12v with the key ON.

The reverse lockout solenoid is located on the tailshaft, drivers side of the tranny:

Check your fuses. My Chilton's shows different fuses for the MAF and the reverse lockout solenoid (96-97), but each year car can be a little different. Rob has the 1995 wiring diagrams on his Tech Pages.... take a look at those.

Probably under the hood. Use your owner's manual to tell you about the fuse usage.

If you replaced the fuse, and the items served by that fuse are now working, the SES light should turn off. It will only be on when there is a problem. If it doesn't go out, you haven't found the problem. You could double check this by pulling the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds to clear all the codes. You might want to scan it before you clear it, so you can see what the stored codes are.

You have to look at the specific wiring diagram for your year car, and than find all the devices that are fed from that fuse. Check each device for a short, and if you find none in the devices, check the wiring from the fuse to the devices.

You could try replacing the fuse, disconnecting the reverse lock-out solenoid, and driving it to see if the fuse blows again. If it doesn't blow you've found the source of the problem. If it still blows, you know the reverse lock-out solenoid is OK - but not necessarily the wires - and you can look elsewhere.
