Long Tube Questions.
Long Tube Questions.
I am looking to get a set of long tube headers. More than likely Pacesetter LongTubes with Y pipe "coated". I have read a million and one threads explaining that these headers are awesome for the price. However, I was curious if I would have to do any cutting/welding. Does the Y pipe replace the Cat? From the explanation I was assuming you unbolt your current Headers/catalytic converter and replace them with the new headers and Y-Pipe.
If someone could clarify this for me I would apprecaite it!

Re: Long Tube Questions.
On long tube headers the cat will be removed with most y pipes. You can have one custom made to keep the cat if you'd like. You shouldn't have to do any cutting/welding unless your y pipe is welded to the cat right now.
Re: Long Tube Questions.
Thanks for the reply. I just didnt want to bolt up the headers and then have to run open headers because I needed to cut/weld something. I will check and see if the cat is still there. Your saying that the cat will be removed and replaced with the new Y pipe that I will be purchasing with the Pacesetter Headers.

YES
you may have to do some cutting to remove the old ypipe from the rest of the exhaust, but a simple hacksaw or sawzall will do the trick.
the pacesetter piece should bolt up to the collectors on the headers (possibly a slip fit with a clamp...not sure), but no welding should be required.
a word of caution, i would change out the stock motor mounts while the manifolds are off, replace them with poly mounts. this will eliminate most of the engine twist and help alleviate any interferance between the headers/ypipe and frame.
