CrossMember/Vibration

So I installed a slp loudmouth on my 93' Lt1 car a few months ago and all was well, but after the install i noticed that the exhuast was hitting the stupid crossmember plate that bolts up right under the I-Pipe of the exhaust and I assume is just there for support incase the driveshaft splits or something. So i bent up the crossmember slightly just so the exhaust didnt touch so it wouldnt vibrate at idle and what not. Worked great, but today i got the same vibration and already checked it out and its hitting that dang cross member again. In the same spot. I realize i do drive on some rough highway roads occasionally...but still...this is sorda rediculous anyone have any ideas? Would it be bad to just take that POS off and leave it off...or is it important incase my driveshaft does break or something. Thanks

Cory

P.S. Another thing I was thinking was that I do have a functional CAT, so maybe it could be starting to get clogged or something and possible makes the entire exhaust shake/vibrate a little more...therefore causing it to touch the cross member? I dont know

is that the best alturnative tho? Would it be better to leave it on and try and grind it down some, or bend some more...or maybe even try and adjust the cat back exhaust? Just some thoughts...they put it there for a reason...so i thats my concern..

Adjust the exhaust. I had a similar problem with my convertible...and THAT crossmember is HUGE. Make sure your exhaust connections are all tight after everything is adjusted.

Re: CrossMember/Vibration

I didnt remove mine. I just widened the bolt holes some, and made a more sever bend in it, and I havent had any problems. I know a lot of guys remove it and dont have any problems, but I woudnt reccomend it. It ties some things up under there, and can always double as a driveshaft safety brace. Id rather do some tweaking, than have something go wrong.

I've got Sub Frames so that piece being gone, makes not a difference....

You can always buy the aftermarket tunnel brace...
