M7 EVENT INFO - All who plan to attend, READ!

Hey all!

For those who do not know what M7 is, go here:
http://www.migmevent.com
All GM racing event in Stanton, MI, October 5. Be there!

Now that I got that out of the way...

M7 is not even 2 weeks away. Hope everyone is as excited as I am about it! I can't believe it is so close.

Here are some notes of interest...

Pre-registration
Pre-registration by mail is closed, but I am still accepting online pre-registrations until this Saturday. You can pre-register here:
http://www.migmevent.com/m7/preregister.shtml
Remember, you do NOT have to pre-register to attend but you will save a few bucks if you do.

I will provide a list of all pre-registrants my mail later this evening, and online pre-registrants by this Sunday.

Sponsors
We have some cool sponsors this year that are graciously helping this event. They are listed here along with what they will be providing:

NuTek Motorsports - Helping with track rental
TByrne Motorsports - Trophies and portion of prize money
Billingsley Racing - TBA, will be at event with display and exhibition runs with their race car
Detroit Speedworks - TBA, more than likely dyno gift certificates for fastest car on 100% street tires
ChevyMall/PontiacMall - Gift certificates
Club Conceptz - TBA
Kart2Kart - Discount coupons for Kart racing
Classic Chevy Int. - Misc. Goodies
MBA Products - Gift certificates
Zaino Bros. - Car polish products
Chevrolet Club Connection - Misc. goodies

Now here is the REAL nice part...
There will again be prize money for bracket elimination and Quick 16 winners. It won't be a fortune or anything, but this will be the second year in a row we will be doing this. This prize money is provided in part by our very own Steve Miller on behalf of his site, CamaroV6.Com (http://www.camarov6.com). So extra special thanks to Steve for doing this, it is a tremendous gesture. With track insurance rates going through the roof and that cost being passed onto me, it will most certainly help.

So what do I do with all the goodies and gift certificates provided by the above? In the past I would just randomly throw stuff out to people, but many have expressed to me that it might not be the proper way to go. This year we are going to try something new...we are going to have a raffle for all the goodies. I will be selling raffle tickets during the event and we will draw the numbers during the awards at the end of the event. You must be present to win, so be sure to stick around. Each participating car entered into the event will get a goodie bag with some stuff in it, and will include one ticket to start off with. Additional tickets can be purchased throughout the event. Price for additional tickets has not been determined, but it won't be anything nutty like $5 a ticket or anything like that.

After event cookout
Unless something goes terribly wrong, there WILL be an after event cookout this year, dammit. In the goodie bags mentioned above, there will be a map to the Ionia state park. After the event, we'll all head over to the park for some chillin' and grillin'. Hot dogs and such will be provided by Quinten (Quintin? Whatever... dreamer1q here on the board :)). His plan will be the food etc. being free but donations to CamaroZ28.Com will be accepted in return. He also plans to being a toolbox, jack, etc. for the event. The man is a saint, I tell ya. You can also bring your own supplies if you like. A State Park Motor Vehicle Permit is requited to enter the park. A daily permit is only $4.00.

Dyno
There was not enough interest in having a dyno at the event, so the idea has been scrapped. Oh, well.

Weather
October 5 is currently too far away to predict what the weather will be for the event, but the day before is looking DAMN good with partly sunny skies and a high of 68 degrees. Of course, this could change by the time you finish reading this post, but always remember that the track area is often very dry even though it is raining only a few miles away. If they sky looks crappy, take a chance and show up anyway. At the very least we can all wait it out for a little while or start the cookout early. Shouldn't be a problem, though. Many people have missed the event in previous years because they thought it was going to rain when it didn't.

Hotel Parties
The parties the night before the event in the hotel are getting quite famous and well...all I wanna say is to try remember to keep it cool and down to a low roar. I don't want anyone to make an ass out of themselves (including me! ;)). Enjoy yourselves and all that crap, but we want to make sure we can use this hotel for this event each year, so... eh... ah... you get the point. :):)

And I think that is it for now! :)

If anyone has any questions, concerns, ideas or there was something that I missed, PLEASE let me know here or through e-mail.

Thanks! See you all there!

What will it cost to pay at the gate?

Does the track sell 100-104 unleaded?

John,

As I recall from last year the track did have both 104 and 110 on site. They didn't open up the track pumps until around 11:30 on one of our trips (M-6 or SLP's track day). So I had to make a run back to town to buy and costed to the pump with out the engine. :D

Some of the town stations that you will pass in Stanton do have 104 as well. So you can check them out on the way into the track. ;D

NO...NO... NO Unleaded Racing Gas is available at the track! I don't know why but I have NEVER seen UNLEADED race gas there!!!

Someday maybe they will realize we are in the age of UNLEADED gas and they will have it. As far as downtown, I dunno! I always mix my own before goint to ANY track, just to be sure I have high octane gas.:alert:

I use TORCO who doesn't talk points they talk real numbers! I usually mix mine to 100.5+ octane.

MFBA participation is staring to look weak, some folks cars are (still) broken... sigh.

Will the track be prepped, VHT'd for say the first 200 ft etc.? When I rent US41 I glue the track for the first 200 ft, and then after about 20-25 minutes we let slick'd cars do burnouts past the tree to burn it in a bit.

Yes, we do thave them prep the track.

Those of you who were there last year, what did you think of the track prep then?

derty
09-26-2002, 11:24 AM
John, Even if they didn't prep the track it would still have the most bite out of 90+% of the tracks in the country. They glue the hell out of it for a 1000' during events. Heck they probably only prepped the track for TNT last night at the very beginning, if that, and it continued to hook good all night!

Things to think about... They just had a big event there this weekend, so there should still be some track prep there still. I try to get there the next immediate day after a big event, because it hooks way better. If they prep the track as in the past, it will be a good day for sure!!

Plan to practice Wed, and Fri if anyone else wants to attend. I'm sure I'll run into Steve there.

means nothing if it rains before Sat and it looks like it will. Lets just hope Sat is clear, or at least, dry.

Jason, can you find out from the Ledfords if we have to leave after the event and get back in line at the gate if we want to participate in the regular evening program- street tire shootout. It will be a hassle to load the car in the trailer just to drive out the gate and turn back in at the main entrance and unload.

Also, I would like to bring up basic track etiquette (sp).
1.Try not to bring up water on the line from the burnout box.
2.Courtesy stage. Dont light both stage lights if the racer next to you has not pre-staged (lit the top bulb.)
3.Clearly mark dial in on front, passenger side, and rear windows and check the time with the led readout located between the lanes before the burnout box.
4.Under no circumstances should anyone be on the track surface during down time. It freaked me out that cars were doing burnouts up and down the track when the track personel took a break for lunch last year or the year before. This is a multi-million dollar facility and we are just renting it- we don't own it.
5.If you break or think fluids are leaking from your vehicle, get out of the center groove, pull over and stop. Do NOT go to the end of track and turn off like usual. I guarantee it will take less time to push you off the track then to do a complete track length clean up.
These are some things Jason should go over in the driver meeting before open time trials, since there are new drivers at every M event. If you have never been to a track drag racing, it would be wise to spectate first to see the sequence of events to run your vehicle before bringing it up to the lanes. Hey, even I have staged with my rear tires before, but then I backed up, staged properly and had a .530 light and shut everybody up.

It always looks like rain before hand, and it hasn't happened yet.

If you go to weather.com, you get one reading, but if you go to intellicast.com you get another and if you go to accuweather.com you get another and so on...

At the time of this post:

Weather.Com - 40% Chance of Rain (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USMI0804)

wunderground.com - Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s and highs in the lower 60s (http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Stanton%2C+MI)

Intellicast.com - Chance of showers. Highs in the upper 60s and lows in the low 40s. (http://www.intellicast.com/Local/USLocalStd.asp?loc=usmict24556&seg=LocalWeather&prodgrp=Forecasts&product=Forecast&prodnav=none&pid=none)

REMEMBER - Stanton usually get less rain than surrounding areas. It can be dry in Stanton but pouring only a few miles away.

Don't sweat the weather, this happens every year. Hopefully, we'll get off lucky again this year. :)

Just catch up with me the day of the event and I will radiot to the tower to ask them on teh spot.

Also, I would like to bring up basic track etiquette (sp).

Cool.

1.Try not to bring up water on the line from the burnout box.

That pisses off the guys with slicks something fierce. If you don't have slicks and skinnies, DO NOT DRIVE THROUGH THE WATER!! DRIVE AROUND IT and then BACK INTO IT TO DO A BURNOUT, and ONLY if you feel you NEED water to do a burnout. The last thging people want you to do is drag water down the track from your front tires rolling through the water.

2.Courtesy stage. Dont light both stage lights if the racer next to you has not pre-staged (lit the top bulb.)

Yep. One person lights the top yellow, and then waits for the other to light their top yellow beofre lighting the second yellow. Some like to think that it is polite to do it so that whoever lights their top yellow first, waits for the other person to light BOTH yellows beofre lighting their second yellow.

3.Clearly mark dial in on front, passenger side, and rear windows and check the time with the led readout located between the lanes before the burnout box.

Gonna bring extra show polish this year.

4.Under no circumstances should anyone be on the track surface during down time. It freaked me out that cars were doing burnouts up and down the track when the track personel took a break for lunch last year or the year before. This is a multi-million dollar facility and we are just renting it- we don't own it.

At an M event? if so, I was never told this was happened (at least not that I remember). If I ever see anyone doing that at an M event, I will take their head off and eat it on the spot.

5.If you break or think fluids are leaking from your vehicle, get out of the center groove, pull over and stop. Do NOT go to the end of track and turn off like usual.

Good call.

TA Jack

If it rains during the week it wont be a problem because the track will just re-prep the racing surface. I saw 6 new 55 gal. drums of VHT track bite in the far corner of the staging lanes at the NMCA event there.
Also, you dont have to worry about a dial-in time until after open time trials, but your car number should show so the tower knows who is coming up to race and it will show on your time slip.

Jason and all the other organizers.

Thanks again for organizing another one of these "M" events. I attended the M6 event and it was great! I especially enjoyed John Mosses' Toybox display of Chevy vehicles - gotta love those Big Blocks.

I posted the M7 website url on the MISSL (MI Impala SS Lovers) website, so hopefully there will be some of our Heavymetal in attendance. I think I will also throw it up at ImpalaSSforum.com.

I will be there in my car ('96 Impala SS, MI plate "SSONIC") for a little friendly competition with all my lightweight GM EFI cousins and looking for a 12 with my little 'ole NA 350. :D

Pray for sun, cool temps, and high pressure!

Just checking that someone will be on hand to organize the staging lanes. This was a bit chaotic at the beginning of last year's event. I understand some race here only and get a little excited, but there was almost a couple of accidents. Just would like to make sure everyone is safe and it's organized. Thanks, for having a great event.

No need to worry I pulled a friend out of the crowd and made him run the lanes. anything to help out. A couple didn't seem to understand the concept of lanes and cut across almost hitting a couple cars. But they were informed that was a really bad idea. Don't want to see anyone get hurt or their rides messed up.

You were very busy for sure. His daughter was running a 69 camaro and he's a regular at Stanton, his name is Randy Pacaki (spelled way wrong I'm sure) People are good about this kind of stuff. Look forward to seeing the Grand Prix club there again, this is another good group of people. I think if you ask people will help no problem, I know we all really look forward to this event in GR and in fact talk about it the entire season. It's our hightlight. Keep up all the great work it's appreciated. :D

Well I will not be there. Had an accident with the nitrous today and won't be there. It seems for some reason the pressure plate on the blow off valve ruptured while I was taking off the braided blow down tube and sent it snaking around at 900 psi and wacked me in the head pretty good. Swelled up to the size of a hard ball in a couple minutes.... so a trip to the ER and a few hours later I'm back at home sore as hell also found out it hit me in the chest, really starting to feel that one.

Good luck tomorrow guys post the highlights.

Any chance I can get a refund Jay?

Sorry to hear that Bishop!

I've heard of this happening to others, tightened down the blow off too tight. My question is, how tight is too tight!

Thanks Mark. I really don't know what caused it to fail, may have been to tight who knows. If it was, you would think they would come up with a better design to prevent it from happening. Oh well maybe it's time for FI.
