I Think This Falls Under MAJOR Tranny Problems...

OK...Just got my tranny in yesterday. Took it for a drive and the car started smoking. Stopped and shut it off in the middle of the road. Popped the hood to reveal a FIRE on the motor. Tranny fluid shot (I believe out of the dip stick) on the motor and started it on fire. It sucked! Got under it today and the tranny lines were tight. (Mind you my dumb@$$ didn't change the filter when I put the tranny in). I changed the filter, but since it's 4:30 am I didn't try it out yet. Does anyone think this caused the problem or is the tranny junk? What caused this problem? Thanks for any help!!

Well, if the thing was filled to the right level and the fluid did come out of the filler tube, I`d say that your vent tube is clogged. Many years of road dust and oil seapage down the top of the bellhousing "could" cover it over

If he just got it rebuilt, shouldn't that have cleaned out the vent tube when they dismalteled it and washed it?

Assuming it was a good tranny guy, yes.

But you know what you get for assuming. Check the vent as it's the most likely culprit when fluid comes up the dipstick.

Did it do anything while you were idling the motor to fill it up? Maybe it is just burping the lines? Just hoping for the best but you can clean the vent hole and see what happens. Make sure you fill it right and idle the car for a while to get it hot and when the level is right, try driving it again.

How much fluid did you put in it?
