Tranny sound, whats makes it sound different then my?

I was viewing a movie of some guys racing their camaros down a highway and the person shotting the film was in 1 of the cars, when the driver was shifting it was making a noticable mech. sound like from FNTF and Initial D. What makes the trans sound like that?
