what is the best tranny fluid, rear gear fluid???

I need to know, it is time to change the fluid in my high dollar tranny and I want to put the most recomended fluid in there. I am going to go ahead and change my rear end fluid while I am at it. I have been using red line rear end fluid? what is the best???
Thanks,
Steve

for the A4 your best bet is to go with the mobil 1 tri-synthetic ATF fluid. It's in a silver bottle, costs about $5 a quart

I run valvoline Maxxlife in the trans and mobil 1 gear lube in the back with GM limited slip additive.

I used mobil 1 in the trans and it hated it. Banged the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift. Once I put in the maxxlife I had no problem. Then the shifts got even better after the shiftkit.

Hmm my shifting with Mobile 1 is much better than non-synthetic ATF. I would suggest a synthetic however.

The original poster and I have automatics. The slicker the fluid the better for you guys with manuals, it makes shifter feel better etc. However, in an auto, it needs a certain amount of friction to engage the clutches. Mobil 1 was slick enough that it caused my 2-3 clutch pack to act up.
