Talking Anybody who's done the drum/disc swap some help plz!

I went to my local chevrolet dealership and I was buying the backing plates (the only parts I had'nt gotten) and the man at the parts counter said that the axles had different part numbers. Do I have to swap my axles out to switch over? I have 95 with a 10 inch rear-end with 3.23 gears and drum brakes. This is making me sooooo mad Help me guys, I had to get a account here to even ask!

I don't think there are any dimensional differences in the two listed axles (93-97), but the drum brake axle may not be as strong (only thing I can figure, since the disc brake axle costs more). The parts book does list the same axle part # for V6 and LT1 for 1997 (might have been the year that all V6's were updated to rear disc as standard-I can't remember) and that is the same axle that is listed for V6's (drum brakes) for earlier years. <shrug>

Thanks alot shoebox! I was wondering about the strength too, but oh well, guess I'll try it to see if we are right. Now i just need the proportional thingie, maybe a Wilwood would do it, but it has to be a 10mm or 12mm to work on my custom plumbing.
