rearend leakind/seaping

At the pinion seal, how much is normal.
I looked at mine today and it looked wet underneath
by the two main bolts that point down. There is
a decent amount of collection but it doesn't look really
runny, kind of sluggish as if its is coming slowly.
I bought the car last summer with 46K, now has 55K
The previous owner had the pinion fixed 3 times under
warranty then sold it once the warranty expired-I found
this out after the fact.

i wouldn't worry about it. mine seeps some too, but not enough to where i have to add fluid. when you start having to add fluid, then it's getting bad. i think most of the f-bodies out there have some seepage from the pinion...

what 322 said. if its collecting dirt then your ok. if it washes the dirt away it time for a new one. when putting the new one in, put some grease on the rubber and pinion before taping it in. otherwise it will burn up soon than it should. and some silicone on the metal rim.

I was told there is a vent and that the way it is designed that it allows some seepage of fluid out on occasion. Mine seeps a bit but I never have to add fluid.

Definitely wanna be careful when you're leaking from the pinion seal like that. My rearend was leaking like that and then the thing blew out. I had gear oil EVERYWHERE, on my mufflers, driveshaft, floor boards, axle. It was a mess! I completely ate up the rearend too.

I took it to the dealer, the leak is coming
from the spines way up where it meets the
driveshaft. When we pulled the plug fluid hit the
floor. They think it just maybe to full.
