Oil Leak I need your opinions
Oil Leak I need your opinions
Alright i am fairly new to Lt1 cars I am a former mustang guy. I have a (^ tA and have 2 small oil leaks. One at the front near the timing cover at least that is where it falls on the ground and one near the rear main I guess. If I let the car sit for 18 hours there will be 2 small puddles about 2 to 3 inches in diameter. I have put about 2k miles on this oil cycle and have not lost really any oil. Where could it be leaking from in front really ? I just did a new opti and a new timing cover gasket and water pump gaskets. Could all of the leaks be from the manifold? also I am fine with the leaks for now is there any real harm in having some small oil leaks? sorry for the long post just want to hear your opinions. also I use 10w 30 mobil 1 syn oil if I started to put regular oil in would it decrease or stop the leaks?
The one in the rear could be the intake manifold. Mine was leaking at the common spot which is by the EGR tube that goes from the intake to the pass. exhaust manifold. The idea behind it is the EGR gets hot and eats away at the RTV back there. Its debateable if thats true or not. However, the only way to find out for sure is to get under the car and look.
thanks I will look. But is there nay harm to having these lil leaks? I drive the car everyday and check the oil level regularly and it doesn't use any oil. what do yuo guys think? also what could be leaking in the front?
I did a search and am thinking of putting a high mileage formula in my car. This will help stop leaks right? it is either pennzoil or quaker state what do you guys reccommend? I heard valvoline is not that good anymore on their HM formula. Also is there any harm from going from sunthetic to regular oil?
There's no harm from going synthetic to regular oil. I'm ignorant on these types of things and dont understand why there would be a problem switching between the 2. I dont know though, to me oil is oil, synthetic or dino. Switching to regular oil will NOT stop the leaks. Synthetic is thinner and finds the leak much more easily over regular oil or so they say. However I say stick to whatever oil you want but fix the leak because its not going away and only getting worse with time.
I have 88k and use Valvoline durablend and an AC Delco filter (PF 25)
