LT1 ported heads, with LT4 hotcam kit and summit forged kit --> 400HP N/A??

can it be done?? i'm planning to buy a summit forged rebuild kit, along with LT4 hotcam kit, and get my heads ported by a local mechanic (he's good.) i wanna get at least 400 RWHP NA. also i will be spraying nitrous 150 wet shot frequently ( looking to deep in to 10's on spray). do you think my engine will be strong enough?? let me know what you guys think of this set up.... thanks

I'm by no means an expert on this, but from everything I've ever seen or read on this board you'll never reach 400rwhp NA with just the LT4 Hot-Cam. The best I've ever seen from the LT4 Hot-Cam with tuning and full exhaust (LTs) was 384rwhp. A bigger cam (like the CC306) with all the intake and exhaust goodies, ported-heads and spot-on tuning MAY get you there. Just from what I've seen and read. I'm sure others will chime in with more details.

Good luck!

I'd have to agree. I've never seen anyone touch 400 whp N/A w/ the HOTCam.

Yes you can get 400 hp out of the hotcam. A dude I work with pulled over 360 at the wheels on the dyno at extreme in Bloomington IN. He has an M6 so its probably getting around 410-425 at the crank. He has The hotcam, 1.6:1 rockers, ported lt1 heads and intake, a 58mm TB, and I think he's got underdrive pulleys. Oh yeah, and lots of Tuning with his tuner cat. So it is possible. He may chime in on this one. I believe he's on this board.
edit:

Ok never mind, I just realized you WERE referring to 400rwhp. He's still going though. He could still get there.

400rwhp I seriously doubt it. I put 325rwhp untuned thru an auto but 400 would be out of reach with an auto for sure. You will have to go with some real good flowing heads and a nice cam to match with longtubes etc.. but not the Hotcam. Most people making close to 400rwhp are using something in the 230-236 comp XE or custom grind camshafts which is what I am going to do. Later Clint

Yeah, I edited that after I re-read the original post. I thought 400 at the flywheel was the question. I missed the RWHP part. Oops.

There is no way to get 400rwhp with the hot cam. Not enough cam to get that much at the wheels. You can get 350rwhp all day with good heads.

The guy is a member on this site, he goes by "jpaugh". I was skeptical of his numbers at first but after witnessing his car on a dynojet dyno I became a believer. He has a very strong LT1, because his stock hp number with minimal mods was 284rwhp. His dyno graphs are here: http://www.imaliar.net. Most people have called him a liar, so he named his website accordingly.

Mods that I know of on his car are an LT4 conversion (factory LT4 heads & intake), LT4 Hot Cam, LT4 ED Timing Set, 1.6rr, Hooker LTs, ORP, CAI, PCM4Less programming, and some other minor stuff I know I'm forgetting. Oh yea, it's an M6 of course. His car is a freak, but definitely shows what's possible. In fact, I'm going the same route this winter and hope to pull similar numbers since my car with minimal mods pulled 282rwhp. I hope to be called a liar too...

You can PM him if you want more details. I'm sure he lurks around here often.
