California Emissions

OK, my car was originally sold/purchased in California. So, does this mean that I've got extra emissions crap on the vehicle, i.e. different cats, smaller throtlle body or anything else that will make it weaker/slower than a Z that I could have bought in Detroit or somewhere other than California?

For the most part NO. If I remember correctly the new car coming out of the big 3 all will pass the CA emmissions standards. For example I bought a new Jeep cherokee in 1999 in Georgia, and when I got station out here in CA I needed to get it smogged for new plates and it passed with no issues. Like I said bought in Georgia, and it passed CA with no problems. I think the "extra" CA emissions on cars is more of a money maker for the car companies. I also know of alot of other people with realitvily newer cars 90's+ that have out of CA cars that pass the emissions with no problems. Hope this helps

Yeah, theres nothing really different about them at all. There is definatly not anything on the car different that would cause any power to be lost over any other state.

Actaully there is a difference, as per Scott S. He told us (at a car show recently) that the 2002s were now 50-state emissions compliant, unlike previous models. The differnce I think would be in the programming, we use horse p!ss ... Uhmm, I mean terrible 91 octane fuel. http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif Other than that, and stricter limits, I don't know of any other possible differences.

If it was an SS, then it will be slightly different with regards to the exhaust (CA cars have a restrictor plate in the dual-dual exhaust), if it were the dual-dual. Nothing on the Z though.

I have been wondering about all the people saying they put in 93 octane and wondering why I can't find a gas station with it.
