Trouble w/DataMaster (trial expired but i havn't even recorded a run)

I just got my cable today, downloaded the trial software to my laptop and the program is telling me my trial period has expired. I am using a usb to serial adapter but I wouldn't think that would cause a problem.

When I tried to record my first run I pluged the cable in from my laptop to my car attempted to record and got the blue screen of death... My system crashed and I'm running XP pro. After my laptop restarted, it got that message about my trial period be over. Any ideas???

Thanks.

Get a hold of DataMaster. Sounds like a problem that they need to investigate.

The more and more I think about it, you're right.
It seems as though a file or something has been corupted.

Also, if I purchase the software, would I be able to put the software on more than just one PC? The laptop its on now could die at any moment.

Thanks.

Datamaster must be registered for each system that will be used to record data, but playback does not require registration. If your laptop dies you will need to request a new registration number.

Also, have not heard of any DM issues running under XP. However, there are very few USB adapters that work to communicate with the GM PCMs due to the unusal baud rate they use. Recommend using the Belkin F5U103, this has been very reliable - but you may need to go to the belkin website and download the XP drivers.

Also, there are some tricks to getting DM to work with the EE Datamaster over a USB connection. Suggest if you are using XP and/or a USB interface that you download the EE BETA software and use that instead of the version 3.4.1. The Beta has better provisions for use with USB and a lot of other enhancements that make it work better.

If you need a new code to get your trial runs back, check with AKM Cables, Andrew can generally get these requests handled.

HTH,

Gary

Thank alot Gary. Trying the beta version sounds like a good idea, I'll give it a shot.

And thanks for the heads up on the USB connection. I may have to break down and buy an old laptop is all else fails.

I appreciate the tips.

I talked to Andrew, a while back, and he ended up giving me a new RS232 to USB adapter. The one i had bought from comp usa didnt work and was throwing the timing out of whack. Ask Andrew about a new adapter, he can tell you all about it.

Thanks for the tip. So, basically he sends you a working serial to USB adapter? Do you remember how much it cost?

Thanks

Nice

Actually, I just sent an email to see if he has any extras. Right now I'm playing around with the one I bought from Radio Shack (even though I'm 99% sure it won't)

As an update, I'm giving Free Scan a try until I can get datamaster working.
