Does the clutch fork need to be removed to remove the tranny? I have heard it both ways and I am trying to remove the tranny but it appears I am getting stuck up on the fork but I cant for the life of me get a wrench on it to remove it.

the clutch fork slides down on a rail type thing if you just pull outward w/ it it'll come down and allow you to drop the tranny on yourself.. be carefull and make sure you put the tranny back up straight to make this easy.. good luck..

Does it slide hard? I have tried sliding it a few times without success. Should I try some wd-40? the PP will be resurfaced so if some gets on it it shouldnt be a problem).

I used a pair of BF pliers to grab onto the end of it and yank...it pops out about 2 inches.

I had the same problem with my clutch fork. Takes quite a rather bit of "umph" more than you think to get it out, and is confusing.

Pull "out" on the fork. Mine engages/disengages without much effort.
