Fixing A Damaged Hood (fiberglass)

Are damaged fiberglass hoods woth repairing, such as the one in this link? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...960240639&rd=1

I'm wondering how well a shop can patch that up and with a quality finish so that it's not a future issue. Plus, what would I be looking at price-wise for such a job (I'd have to repaint it to a white color anyways)?

TIA

Dont even think of buying a damaged fiberglass hood Very BAD IDEA !!!! Just fork out the extra cash even if you have to save an extra month or two to get a brand new one . Trust me youre just looking for headaches with this one .

I would think that hood would be repairable considering it has such little damage.

I totally disagree. One of the beauties of fiberglass is the ease of repairs. You could easily fix that hood yourself. There is not much damage and it could be made perfect again without worrying about future problems. I don't even think a body shop would charge that much to fix it and repaint it. I would charge you $100 plus supplies and that includes wet sanding the final clear coat and buffing it out. Three day job max ( fiberglass takes about 24 hours to cure and clear coat takes about 24 hours to set up before sanding and buffing). I'm not saying anywhere around where you live would give you the same price but that is what i would charge. That hood seems kinda pricey though.

I agree, if you want to learn how. This would be a great first project.

Thanks for all of your guys' advice. I think it is best either way to stay away from a hood like that. It doesn't appear too unrepairable though but it's just not worth the money.

Re: Fixing A Damaged Hood (fiberglass)

I bought a slp hood that was way worse than that and I had it fixed within 3-4 hours or work. That is a very easy fix and if you really want that hood than it is a good deal. Wouldnt take much to fix it at all.

I think i would rather fix that hood than buy an aftermarket one that could be junk.
