305 TPI to 383 stroker carbed
Hello all, Im swapping out my 305tpi to a 383 stroker carbed, and was wondering since I'm doing this conversion, will a manual fan fit? I'd rather go with a manual fan because I really don't want to mess with wiring up my electric fans. Also what water pump would you reccomend, long or short? Thanks in advance!

My 84 has a manual fan, came that way. I used the aftermarket "stock" 84 water pump, don't remember if it was "short" or 'long". I used an aluminum 5 blade flex fan, and the stock plastic cowling that came on the 84.
Oh yah, the 84 has a 383ci. in it.

everything will bolt up. A 383 has the same external dimensions as a 305. You can ditch the computer/wiring for your TPI. IF its automatic, your going to have wire up a lock-up kit for the trans. Your also going to need to wire you a fuel pump relay, this is very easy, PM me if you need help. You going to need a fuel pressure regulater with a return. A carb is designed to work around 7 PSI as TPI has about 45 PSI. I used a mallory 4309 ( i think that was the PN) Stock 3rd gens use a long style W/P. Thats what I stuck with...(long Style) Yes a manual fan will fit.

Ok, I got the motor in and now the Alt brackets won't bolt up, I have the aluminum aftermarket brackets and they don't work, so I tried my old (stock)ones and got the same result. Also I think the power steering brackets will work but I can't seem to remember how they go. Are any of you guys able to send me a pic of how they go on?? Thanks in advance.

My 4500 stall/Powerglide runs on the highway at 3000rpm+ or in cruise traffic.. It's never had heat issues.
To solve the issue when I still had a 700R4..my friend just wired the trans to a toggle switch. I locked it once I wanted it locked. The trans also will NOT lock up in first gear. It unlocks by itself. When you begin to accelerate again with the button ON...the converter locks INSTANTLY as the trans hits second gear. It worked nice to keep the sound(rpm's) down around town(4200 stall at the time)...haha
goodluck!
