My answer won't be the best but I don't want to see your question just fade away without a reply. Your question has me a little confused but here goes.
I have ZR1 replicas. These are Chinese knock offs that I assume have the same dimensions as the originals. When ordering mine, there was a choice of center caps just as you describe. I'm 99.99% sure that either center cap will fit if you are buying them from the same place you get the wheels. In my situation, the rear caps do not go all the way into the nacelle and therefore do not actually lock (clip) into place. Never the less, they have held their position well.
Now, here's some ancillary information that might be useful. My car sees very little action, about 200 miles per year but in less than a year I notice some roughness under the chrome away from the face of the wheel. This is probably poor preparation of the aluminum surface before plating. We will see how far this progresses through year two.
Also, since the car had been driven so little after some engine work the emission test readiness hadn't been achieved. I had them put the car on the rollers and "driven" to get the actual emission levels. Watching the rear wheels spin with the car stationary was revealing. The concentricity of at least one rear wheel was obviously poor. Apparently not so bad that the tire installer complained when balancing but visually a disappointment.
