lookin to buy a nice set of black chrome corvette rims for a decent price. they are 18x9.5 and i am wondering if they will rub when i turn? or if the back will not fit?

This is an old photo showing 9.5" wide wheels with a 49mm offset. The wheels you are looking at with a 40mm offset will stick out about 0.35" further. You may get some rubbing on the front tires, on the inside plastic fender liner when you hit a bump with the wheels turned.

 

how could you limit rubbing? could it wreck the plastic or just make noise? how much restriction would you have on your turning ability?

Those wheels were on my car 14 years ago. When the front wheels were turned sideways, and the front of the car hit a bump, the outside edge of the tire would rub on the plastic fender liner. My front end may be down slightly lower than stock, because I have the QA1 adjustablel coil-over shocks, and have adjusted the ride height up and down several times to where I like it.

The extent of the "damage" was a shiny spot on the soft plastic fender liner. A lot of people used to run some 17x9.5 35mm wheels, and they had similar problems. It isn't going to interfere with the steering.

My current street wheels are ZR1/GS 17x9.5 56mm in the front, and they do not rub at all.

The suspension and frame rails are identical. Anything related to the backspace of the wheel would be identical.

The only difference would be minor dimensional differences of the outer edge of the fenders.

 

are you sure? its a 600$ purchase plus tires and i cant return them. seems like when i stick my hand behind the front rims there wouldnt be 2" to spare?

 

You would not be adding 2" at the back of the wheel.

You are adding 1.5" to the width of the wheels, compared to the stock wheels. Based on the 9.5" 40mm offset = ~6.78" backspace, compared to a stock wheel (8.0" wide, 55mm offset = 6.62" backspace) you are adding 0.16" to the back of the wheel, and 1.34" to the front of the wheel. That's why the issue will be on the outside edge of the fender.

By comparison, my ZR1/GS is a 9.5" wide, 56mm offset = ~7.41" backspace. That wheel adds 0.79" at the back of the wheel, and 0.71" at the front of the wheel, hence no interference at the outside edge of the fender.

 

but these rims are +40 offset, so they wont be as close to the inside of the fender
