Wheel weights and effects on acceleration?
Wheel weights and effects on acceleration?
I have just ordered a set of OE Concepts 17x11 ZR1's for the back of my 1997 Camaro SS. I am putting Nitto 555r P315/35/R17 on and after I purchased the wheels I found out the weight of the wheels are 30 pounds each. It sounds pretty heavy to me considering my stock 17x9 factory SS
wheels only weight about 21 pounds each. Does the weight of these aftermarket rims sound right or did I get some bad information from the manufacture. I haven't received the rims yet or else I would weigh them myself. Also if this is the true weight of these wheels what type of effect will this have on acceleration. If anyone has these wheels could you let me know if it has made a big difference on acceleration. Thanks.

Re: Wheel weights and effects on acceleration?
30lbs sounds plausible for a 17x11. As a data point, you could get back down to about 20lbs/wheel if you went with a bigh end (expensive) wheel. Just think, those huge 22" wheels on SUV's weigh 95-100lbs - so you could be worse off!
You'll definitely notice the feel between your old and new wheels. As far as the actuall loss of acceleration, I couldn't tell you....
