Wheel lock Question!

I got some new wheels ("rims"), they're Audi RS4 17" replica wheels. Anyway the guy who I bought them from gave me 20 chrome bolts but I want locks so I don't come out one day and find my car stolen, especially because car theft is friggin' brutal here.

How do I know which wheel locks fit my wheel?

Re: Wheel lock Question!

Buy six sets and start test-fitting them.

Re: Wheel lock Question!

I was always under the impression that almost any locking lug nut would fit almost any car. The only real 'matching' that needs to be done is matching the lug nut to the wheel and then matching a key to the wheel lock.

They come in a few different taper, thread size, and pitch configurations. For example, the nuts from a 240 will not fit my RX7 because the thread is different; and I can't use the stock lug-nuts with my aftermarket wheels because the taper is different. They are usually pretty standard for different makes though.

The best thing to do is bring a lug-nut to the store with you. Most auto-parts stores will have a thread guide.

…Or the guy behind the counter may know

…Or it will say on the package what makes/models they will work on.

BTW: If a thief really wants your wheels, keyed nuts will not stop him. All you need to get them off is a socket and a hammer.
