So I got two new tires...........now I gotta have em mounted and balanced but i am getting some UNGODLY high prices from local shops. One guy says 36 a tire (WTF) another says 24 (STILL HIGH)..

wtf is going on here?

The last time i did this whole thing it was 12.50 a tire......and that place has been taken over by some other shop that now charges double...

 

i sorta knew there was a section for this, but posted it in the lounge so more people would see it...........any chance of getting it moved back?

 

thats what happens when you dont buy the tires from that shop

for those, id prolly charge between 20-25 a wheel, since my standard labor fee for 18's-20's is 25 a wheel

I buy from tire rack.com because they have good prices......when shops around here have good prices and dont jack em up then I'll go for them too - guess i just have to search for a shop a lil farther

 

but thats the thing, you arent saving in the end with tirerack because now you have to pay for installation and such

next time see if a local shop will price match for you. Im beating tire racks and other competitors prices all the time at work

I paid 65 to mount and balance my zr1s. mostly because i didn't want some redneck to do it at a differant place..

 

The place I got GS-D3's from undercut Tirerack by $5 a tire, and that included screw in stainless valvestems, mounting, balancing, the whole 9 yards. So I guess I got everything extra for free.

J3ff, Go on the Tire Rack's web site. It lists tire shops in your area that
are listed as 'recommened installers'. I did this and there was a tire shop
that was 3 miles away from my house {and i live in a small town}.. The Tire Rack shipped my tires straight
to this shop and they installed and balanced 4 tires for $60. It also has a feed
back section that talks about these installers...... Unless you live out in the
middle of the desert??? but check it out....Billl

i usualy do my own with the machine we have at work but i def was nto trying to mount my 275/35/18's on my new wheels cause they are a b!tch to do. Cheapes place i found wanted $125 to do all 4

 

I agree with you. If you buy wheels and/or tires from me, I mount them up for free. If you purchase them elsewhere and then want me to mount them up, don't expect any favors. We do charge for valve stems/balancing/disposal but if you purchase your tires/wheels from us, it is less than if your purchase them elsewhere.

As a small shop, we certainly try to be competitive but we simply can't match the prices that Tire Rack charges (at least most of the time). They are a volume dealer and because they sell tires nationwide, they get better pricing than local tire/wheel dealers do therefore they can afford to sell for less and maintain the same margin we attemp to make. When you purchase tires/wheels from a local dealer, we are truly concerned about your happiness. When you purchase them over the internet from someplace else and then expect us to warranty them out when you have a problem, put yourself in our position. Stop and think about it for a second. Put yourself in our place and then honestly tell us what you would do. We have costs of running a business (i.e.,inventory, lights, water, payroll, benefits for our employees, mortgage and/or lease payments, equipment, etc. just to name a few). None of us got into the business we are in to either loose money or just break-even. We are all entrepreneurs. We have dreams and families to support too.

Keep in mind too, like anything else you get what you pay for. I only have one or two guys in my shop that I allow to mount tires on custom rims. They take their time and are very, very careful to make sure that they don't scratch or mar a rim. They also take a lot of time to balance them as they know that I want them to go out of our shop with the least amount of weight possible on the rim. Sometimes this requires turning the tire on the rim 3 or 4 times. There is nothing uglier (in my opinion) than a wheel with a lot of weight on the inside of the rim.

Sorry if I kinda went off on a tangent but we seem to deal with this daily (i.e., people who bought a product from someone else and either expect a favor and/or special pricing from us or for us to correct a problem that occurred elsewhere.)
