Trade my OEM Z06 wheels for Mags?

I met a guy today who has the mag wheels on his C5, and he really wants to trade wheels with me. Im just not sure I want to trade.

I hear the mags crack very easily? Is it worth it simply for the weight difference? Any opinions and/or pics on Fbods greatly appreciated.

BTW, here's some pics of my car as it stands right now....

Mags? What year vette are we talking about?
I don't think I would trade if I were you, oem ZO6's are kinda rare, I hardly see them. I always see chrome ones though...

I would do it. But I'd powder coat them a different color.

Does anyone know what exact sizes they are? 17X9.5 up front and 18X10.5 in the rear hopefully? Otherwise, I prolly wont do it. But with the Z06s I am having some bad rubbing problems in the rear. Hmmmm.

Doh. Just realized there is a wheel/tire forum. Please move my post someone.

I will move your post for you...err...wait... ...Nevermind.

Here's you a better pic.

I would be torn just as you - but the only thing that would help me to decide would be the fact that you don't have the dark Z06 wheels - just the silver. If they were dark, I would probably stick with them since that's what I want ultimately (but they have to be OEM, no aftermarket dark gray Z06 wheels available...and very few people sell the factory ones.)

But - having the silver Z06 wheels, I would probably trade - just because of the fact of who has what. I have always wanted to see the magnesium wheels on a black F-Body - and I think it would look great...wish I were good at Photoshop.

I say GO FOR IT!

Just saw this too...I didn't think they had magnesium wheels as late as 2001 - maybe I am wrong. I DO know that they had some "magnesium painted" C5 thin spokes...hmmm...

And according to this GM page they are 17X8.5 all the way around. I would take a look myself though.

I realllly wanted the dark Z06 wheels, but I didnt have any luck finding them.

Im pretty sure they have to be 18s in the rear. Doesnt make any sense why GM would put 17s all around on a C5. And im also pretty sure that they only made the mag wheels for 98-99, so I dont know whats up with that guy on corvetteforum.

Those "magnesium painted" C5 thin spokes were for the anniversary package C5s. They look okay, but Im not a huge fan of that design.

Anyways, thanx for the reply.

The wheels are 17x8.5 and 18x9.5. Just like all the other C5 wheels except the Z06.

Magnesium is quite a bit lighter than aluminum. Each rim probably only weighs 10-12 lbs VS the aluminum ones probably weigh around 19-21 lbs. I wouldn't use them for the street, I've heard of lots of magnesium wheels cracking.

I would do the trade. Brian, those would look awesome. As for cracking, any people have first hand or second hand stories of cracking magnesium rims? (something other than.........."well i heard that.....")?
