Tires: NT05 vs NT555R

Gonna need new tires for the SS after this season. Bought it on NT555Rs which were decent tractionwise, but I wanted street tires as I was DDing it at the time. It has Sumitomo HTR-Zs on it currently.

I'm mainly looking at the NT05's and NT555R's. The car is mainly a summer toy, but it would be nice to have the freedom of not worrying about any surprise showers. (I'm very much against running DR's in bad weather, despite how many people claim to run NT555R's through huge rain showers, etc. My car/life is worth more than .05 off my 60'.)

Anyways, the NT05's are a bit more but I think I can get about as much traction out of them, they'll be much safer and the rain, and they will last longer.

This is for the rear in 315/35/17. Fronts will be 275/40/17, probably NT555's or Sumitomo.

Opinions?

You won't get as much traction out of them as the 555Rs, the structure and compound of a drag radial is way different from a regular performance tire like the NT05.

Having driven Nitto DRs in the rain several times myself, I can say that they actually work surprisingly well in it, but if you aren't confident in what others say, then just go with the NT05s. You car will handle better with those, but won't be able to launch as hard.

Agree with rising pheonix...you're not talking me into an NT05 over a 555R..ever... I drive my Nitto's until bald and they've never scared me but you have to be aware of all road conditions. I suggest some all seasons if you don't like paying attention to the road.

I'd like to try an NT05 and see if it'll go 1.72 in the 60ft. 11.50's @ 124+

eric, also look at NT01's
i talked to a guy at a car show that had nt01's on the back of his procharged vette. He loved them. Said they CAN be driven in the rain, just have to take it easy, and they get good traction.

Do the 315 NT05's run narrow like the 555 R's do?
